In this post, you can find our League of Ireland Odds + Weekly Acca as we preview all the upcoming action in Ireland’s top division.

The League of Ireland Premier Division continued with its drama last Friday Night with big victories for Waterford and Derry City over Dundalk and Bohemians, respectively. Shelbourne’s poor run continued with a draw to Drogheda, Shamrock Rovers and Pats drawing and Galway and Sligo Rovers also playing out a draw.

We’re continuing our domestic coverage with another preview of the weekly action along with a weekly acca for readers to consider.

Dundalk v Shamrock Rovers – Friday 7.45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

Dundalk @ 9/2

Shamrock Rovers @ 8/13

Draw @ 11/4

Preview

Dundalk remain at the foot of the table following two successive league defeats, including last Friday Night 4-1 to Waterford in what could prove to be a relegation six-pointer at the end of the season. The club are now 6 points adrift of Louth rivals Drogheda with 40% of league matches played. To compound the uncertainty around the club Noel King who was recently named manager has now stepped back on medical grounds.

Shamrock Rovers are yet to return to the summit of the table, (despite my weekly declaration that it’s only a matter of time) and will be disappointed that they’ve only 6 points earned from their last 5 league games. Their latest 2-2 draw against managerless St Patrick’s Athletic bodes more questions than answers, but I still do believe they’re the top team in Ireland currently and will show that sooner rather than later.

Prediction: Dundalk 0-3 Shamrock Rovers

Dundalk can’t seem to catch a break right now and it’s not hyperbolic to say they’re operating on an entirely different stratosphere to the team that dominated Irish Football only a few seasons ago. Rovers’ are yet to click, but I think they’re due a heavy victory soon.

Best Bet: Shamrock Rovers -2 @ 9/2

Sligo Rovers v Bohemians – Saturday 7.45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

Sligo Rovers @ 8/5

Bohemians @ 17/10

Draw @ 9/2

Preview

Sligo Rovers have now recovered from their 5-game winless run to have 4 points from their last two league games following a herculean 1-0 win over St Patrick’s Athletic and a 0-0 draw against Galway United. The table remains very tight and if Russell can marshal his troops to another victory they could climb to 5th and back into the conversation for the European Places!

Bohemians are back where they were at the start of the season, out-of-form and closer to the bottom than the top of the table following just 1 point from their last 4 league games. It’s a reminder to fans that maybe the club is very much where they should be right now and perhaps the sacking of Declan Devine could be called premature. Time will tell closer to the end of the season I guess.

Prediction: Sligo Rovers 1-0 Bohemians

The Bit O’Red have shown a bit of form of late, and I think they’re better placed to earn themselves a victory here. Bohs will need to be wary of a lack of confidence getting the better of them too and another defeat could see them fall down the table further.

Best Bet: Sligo Rovers Win + Under 2.5 Goals @ 15/4

Drogheda v Galway – Friday 7.45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

Drogheda @ 2/1

Galway @ 11/8

Draw @ 21/10

Preview

Drogheda have had a more positive run in recent weeks with 7 points from their last 5 league matches, including a two-game unbeaten run following a 1-1 draw against Shelbourne last Friday Night and a 2-1 Louth Derby win over Dundalk the previous Monday. However, Drogheda remain second from bottom and 3 points behind Sligo Rovers directly above them. Thus, they’ll need to continue picking up points to stay in touch with those above them.

With Galway, there was plenty of conjecture about how they’d transition from their First Division dominance last season into what’s perceived as a far higher quality standard in the Premier Division. As of yet, it’s been positive with the side currently in 5th on 21 points and unbeaten in their last 7 matches albeit 5 of those have been draws.

Prediction: Drogheda 1-0 Galway

While Drogheda have stepped up their performance levels in recent weeks, they’re still in danger of being cut adrift second from the bottom with another poor run of form. Galway on the other hand are clear and could keep the good times rolling with a win. With that said, I fancy Drogheda for this one, Galway may be unbeaten in 7 but have ridden their luck at times and I think they’re due a defeat.

Best Bet: Drogheda @ 2/1

St Patrick’s Athletic v Derry City – Friday 7.45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

St Patrick’s Athletic @ 11/4

Derry City @ EVS

Draw @ 11/5

Preview

St Patrick’s Athletic earned a credible 2-2 draw against Shamrock Rovers’ under Sean O’Connor last Friday Night who was taking the team on an interim basis following the sacking of Jon Daly. However, the long-awaited news about the return of “King Kenny” to the League of Ireland was finally announced on Thursday morning, with the club announcing the former Republic of Ireland manager, a huge statement of intent for the club’s ambition.

Derry have been solid this season with 11 points from their last 5 league games to put them 1 point behind league leaders Shelbourne. Furthermore, with the signing of Hoban (who currently tops the league scoring charts) with 9 goals, 1 assist and 0.75 goals per 90, they could be poised to really challenge this year for the league. With that said, for me, a lot of those results are papering over deeper cracks, and I think a poor run of results is not beyond the realms of possibility if they don’t step up their performances.

Prediction: St Patrick’s Athletic 1-1 Derry City

St Patrick’s Athletics’ draw against Shamrock Rovers proved that despite their poor form they have some good players and are far better than their current league position (7th). This is a big game for both sides, but while 8 points separate them on the table I think they’re far closer in quality so this could be a scored draw in Stephen Kenny’s first game back in the league!

Shelbourne v Waterford– Friday 7.45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

Shelbourne @ 3/4

Waterford @ 15/4

Draw @ 23/10

Preview

Shelbourne may still be league leaders, following a scintillating start to their season which catapulted them from the race for Europe conversation, to genuine title contender with 41% of the league season completed. However, with their recent run of results with 1 win in their last 9 league games they’re hanging onto top spot by the skin of their teeth and a similar run of results could flip the narrative entirely about their season again.

Waterford are right now proving their pre-season critics wrong, currently 4th in the Premier Division following a brilliant three-game winning streak. That run has now Waterford supporters dreaming of European Qualification if they can keep this run of form under Keith Long. With that said, such is the tight nature of the league Waterford are 6 points off league leaders Shelbourne but also are only 7 ahead of second from bottom Drogheda.

Prediction: Shelbourne 1-0 Waterford

This is a huge match for Shelburne and Damien Duff, who need to stop the poor run of form if they’re to stay top of the table. Waterford won’t fear Shelbourne either and are arguably the most dangerous side in the league to face now. However, while I see this game being tight I think home advantage could be crucial to Shelbourne snatching a narrow victory.

Best Bet: Shelbourne Win + Under 2.5 Goals @ 11/5
