KSI v Tommy Fury Tale of the tape

KSI

Nickname: The Nightmare

Hometown: Watford, England

Pre-fight record:

Age: 30

Height: 5ft 11 (180 cm)

Weight 183 lbs (83kg)

Reach: 76 inch

Style: Orthodox

Recognition: KSI is an example of your modern-day crossover athlete. He initially found his fame on YouTube.KSI first fought Logan Paul in an Amateur Boxing fight back in 2016 which was scored a draw.

They then fought in a Pro bout which KSI was able to win via Split-Decision. However, since that victory, with many predicting he would hang up his gloves, KSI has seemingly become very taken with the sport of professional boxing.

On the 27th of August 2022, KSI remarkably won two fights in one night beating English rapper “Swarmz” in the second round via KO before beating Mexican boxer Luis Alcaraz Pineda via KO in the third round of their bout to cap off a brilliant night for KSI.

Following that double victory KSI has fought twice, beating FaZe Temperrr via KO in the first round of their fight back in January and a no-contest against Joe Fournier back in May which was originally a KO win for KSI. It was later overturned due to an accidental elbow strike.

Tommy Fury

Nickname: TNT

Hometown: Manchester, England

Pre-fight record: 9–0 (4 KOs)

Age: 24

Height: 6ft in (183 cm)

Weight: 183 lbs (83kg)

Reach: 80 inch

Style: Southpaw

Recognition: Unlike his opponent KSI, Fury was a boxer long before he found fame via television/social media.

Fury comes from a family steeped in boxing tradition, his father, John Fury, was an Irish boxer of traveller descent who finished his career with a record of 8–4–1 and his half-brother Tyson Fury is of course World Heavyweight Champion.

Despite his famous boxing family, it wasn’t until Tommy Fury’s appearance on Love Island back in 2019 that he first rose to real public prominence in a role reversal to his opponent KSI who had achieved the opposite feat.

The “Fury” surname may weigh heavy, and Tommy has received plenty of criticism for how he has risen to prominence with plenty questioning his fundamental boxing ability.

To his credit, he already has a Pro Record of 9–0 (4 KOs) having fought considerably tougher opponents than KSI, even if his last fight was an SD victory over Jake Paul.

KSI v Tommy Fury Preview

KSI’s Credentials

The time for “cheap talk” is almost over and both fighters are on the verge of letting their boxing ability do the talking in Saturday’s showdown.

Social media “Sensation” turned boxing star KSI has leapt from making juvenile jokes on YouTube to putting his body on the line in proper face-to-face combat.

Although the cheap YouTube verbal jabs remain a large part of his obnoxious and loud character that formed a crucial part in his rise as a fighter.

KSI enters this fight unbeaten and that must be respected with a pre-fight record of 4–0–0–1 (3 Kos).

You can criticise the quality of the opposition all you like, but getting in the ring and fighting said opposition is an entirely different story!

KSI for all his detractors has transformed his body physically and that is probably best shown by his two victories on the one night back in August 2022.

Fury’s Chances

Tommy Fury enters this fight with an awful amount of pressure having been immersed in the sport of boxing since a young age.

The “Fury” family name means that it’ll be a huge setback in his career if he falls victim to KSI on Saturday and all it takes is one lucky punch from a moment of complacency and he will have been embarrassed in the ring.

Fury, for all his detractors and critics, is still quite young for a professional boxer at 24. With a record of 9–0 (4 KOs), he has done everything he needs to do at this stage in his career.

It’s very easy to criticise him for taking these “social media” fuelled fights, but if you look at who all the greatest boxers fight at the beginning of their career, every boxer has to do the hard yards first.

Fury has just found a way to raise his profile and get “money fights” before his boxing experience warrants.

Fury comes into this fight with everything to lose and seemingly very little to gain through victory. Given that he has to be commended for his bravery in taking this fight on.

KSI will heavily fancy his chances since (respectfully) his ego, which has taken him so far, doesn’t set himself limits.

Fury wins this comfortably for me; he is a genuine boxing purist while KSI is still a rookie in the sport.
