Kilkenny v Tipperary Preview
Kilkenny’s Form
The Cats commenced their 2025 season less than fruitfully with a modest record of three wins and three defeats, meaning they finished bang in mid-table of Division 1A, fourth place of seven sides. Their highlight result was a 0-29 to 0-20 win over Limerick.
Kilkenny, like they always tend to be again, dominated the Leinster Championship with 4 wins, with their sole defeat coming 2-19 to 1-15 against Wexford when they had already qualified for the final. That line of form set up another date with Galway, whom they had previously beaten in the Championship 3-24 to 0-21.
What game in the Leinster Final was another dominant victory over Galway, this time in Croke Park, in a 3-22 to 1-20 win to book their place in this All-Ireland semi-final. However, there is a weight of expectation behind them for a county which was once so dominant, and is now experiencing a 10-year All-Ireland Hurling Championship drought.
Tipperary’s Form
The Premier County came into the 2025 All-Ireland Hurling Championship on the back of a strong league campaign where they topped Division 1A following a record of 5 wins and 1 loss to finish 1 point ahead of Cork who they beat in Round 4 in Semple Stadium 2-22 to 1-21 to reach the league final. However, that result was reversed in the Final, where they lost in Pairc Ui Chaoimh against Cork 0-23 to 3-24.
In the Munster Championship Group Stage, they opened with a 2-23 a piece draw against Limerick, but in the following game, they were battered by 15 points against Cork in a 4-27 to 0-24 scoreline. They finished the Group Stage with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat, which saw them drop into the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-finals.
In their preliminary quarter-final, they made light work of Laois, winning by a staggering 23 points in a 0-18 to 3-32 scoreline. Their latest win was a win over Galway in Limerick by an efficient 8-point margin, 2-17 to 1-28.
Key Players To Watch
TJ Reid - Kilkenny
The Cats' top scorer in the Championship this season is the evergreen Ballyhale Shamrocks man TJ Reid, who at 37 is one of the last remnants in this Kilkenny squad of when they were once so dominant on the All-Ireland stage with 7 to his name, along with 7 All-Stars.
This season he has a tally of 5-26, which for an average of 10.25 points per game across his 4 matches played and in their Leinster Final win scored (1-04, 0-04f).

Jason Forde - Tipperary
The Nenagh club man and Full Forward Jason Forde (31) is also still going strong, having made his Championship debut for Tipperary in 2013 and usually lines out for his county as Left Corner Forward.
This season, he has been Tipperary’s top scorer with a tally of 2-39 across 6 matches for an average of 7 5points per game. In their latest win over Galway, he hit a tally of (0-07, 2s/l, 1f).

Kilkenny v Tipperary Prediction & Best Bet
People are sleeping on Kilkenny, and they’ve quietly gone about their business to reach this stage of the All-Ireland. History would suggest few can match them at Croke Park.
Aside from being battered by Cork earlier in the Munster Championship, Tipperary have been consistently strong throughout 2025, and the odds underestimate their chances slightly.
This will be the game of the weekend, I don’t think there will be anything between the teams bar a puck of the ball, but The Cats, I still think, are due an appearance in a Final.
Prediction: Kilkenny 3-22 Tipperary 2-24
