Dublin v Kildare Preview

Dublin’s Form

Dublin bounced back following their relegation from Division 1 last season by winning six of their seven league matches to earn promotion straight back to Division 1 for the 2024 season and earn a place in the Division 2 Final in the process. The Dubs dispatched Louth, Cork, Kildare, Meath, Clare and Limerick along the way during their league campaign with arguably their most impressive success coming in Round 6 with their 2-19 to  2-11 win away to Meath. They went on to obliterate a fancied Derry side in the second half of that league final to make amends for the earlier defeat to the Oak Leaf County in the round-robin stage of the competition.Throughout Division 2 Dublin were the second-highest scorer with 125 points scoring an average of 17.85 points per match, only Cork scored more with 137. Dublin also had the second-best defence in the competition with only 95 points conceded which is 13.57 points per match, Derry had the best defence with 69 points conceded.Dublin commenced their Leinster Championship Campaign by demolishing  Laois in a 2-09 to 4-30 scoreline in the Quarter-Final in typical Dublin fashion. They overcame a scare in the Semi-Final against Kildare winning in a 0-12 to 0-14 score before going on to beat Louth in the Leinster Final in a comprehensive 0-15 to 5-21 scoreline. In the All-Ireland Series they were drawn against Kildare, Sligo and Roscommon. In their opening match against Roscommon the Dubs were held to a disappointing 1-11 to 0-14 home draw and in the wake of that result we got reaction from Dublin legend Diarmuid Connolly who believes it's time for Dublin to go 'back to the drawing board'.Despite that draw Dublin still finds themselves as the All-Ireland favourites despite playing their football in Division 2 this season.Welcome To The BoyleSports Blog & News SiteLet’s reward you with some Free Bets!Sign up to BoyleSports in Ireland & GET €40 FREE BETS WHEN YOU BET €10! Kildare’s Form

Kildare entered the 2023 League Campaign in Division 2 following their relegation from Division 1 last season when they finished second last with a record of 2 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats. This season Kildare had an average Division 2 campaign finishing 5/8 with three wins and four defeats. Kildare had the second-worst attack in the division scoring 87 points an average of 12.42 points per match and only two points less than bottom-placed Limerick. However, they had the third-best defence conceding 98 points only three points less than Dublin and 29 less than Derry with an average of 14 points per match.Kildare commenced their Leinster Campaign by beating Wicklow comfortably in a 0-10 to 1-17 scoreline, before running Dublin close in the Semi-Final eventually losing 0-12 to 0-14. In the All-Ireland Series, they were drawn in Group 3 with Dublin, Roscommon and Sligo drawing their first game with Sligo 0-14 to 0-14.

Key Players To Watch

Paddy Woodgate

The Kildare forward is one of their best footballers at the moment and is likely to be on free-taking duty at the weekend following his 0-4 (2fs, 1 ‘45’) in their draw with Sligo. He hit that same total against Dublin in their Leinster Semi-Final 0-4 (0-2f, 0-1 45). Woodgate will need the same again at the weekend if Kildare are to stand a chance of topping the Dubs.

Con O’Callaghan

Arguably the most talented GAA player in the country, a capable hurler and footballer, the Dubs are very lucky to have Con O'Callaghan in their panel who has scored a staggering 18-91 since joining the group in 2016.His goal-scoring threat is in a league of its own and if he can perform at his best in this game against Kildare then Dublin will be hard beaten.

Dublin v Kildare Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction: Dublin 1-13 Kildare 1-10Dublin comes into this match not just as heavy favourites for this match but also as favourites for the All-Ireland Outright. However, Dublin are still quite not the side they used to be as evidenced by their 1-11 to 0-14 draw with Roscommon in the first round of games and the fact that Kildare ran them close in the Leinster Semi-Final.Kildare will also be disappointed with their opening round draw with Sligo but will be confident they can put that behind them at the weekend and give Dublin another scare.Dublin don’t seem to be blowing teams away quite with the scoring frequency of years gone by but still possesses that ability as shown by their rampant League and Leinster  Final victories earlier this season and should have enough here to win again.Best Bet: Winning Margin Dublin 1-3 @ 15/4Click Below For All Our Kildare v Dublin OddsKildare v Dublin Odds - All-Ireland Group Stage Round 2 2023
