Kieran Trippier is amongst the names being backed to land an England starting berth against Croatia in their first match at Euro 2020 after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s participation was cast into doubt by a thigh injury sustained against Austria.

Manager Gareth Southgate said

the injury will be assessed but admitted the way the Liverpool defender left the pitch ‘wasn’t a good sign’""

...as his chances of starting the Group D opener was pushed out to 6/1 from 2/1.

Kiernan Trippier started Wednesday’s friendly in Middlesbrough in the unfamiliar position of left back, but the Atletico Madrid defender is now an even money shot from 3/1 to start on Sunday week against Croatia, while Chelsea’s Reece James is into 11/8 from 5/2 to make the starting XI.

Jack Grealish played a starring role in the 1-0 victory over Austria and has shortened into 13/8 from 9/4 despite a slight concern over a shin issue, while Harry Maguire’s race to be fit has seen Croatia starts backed for both Tyrone Mings (6/5 from 9/4) and Conor Coady (7/4 from 5/1).
