Keely Hodgkinson is now the odds-on favourite at 4/11 with BoyleSports to be crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2024.
The 22-year-old British middle-distance runner put a streak of near misses behind her in Paris as she added an 800m Olympic gold medal to her CV following silvers at the Tokyo Olympics and the previous two World Championships.
There could be more silverware on the cards for the golden girl of British athletics as she now leads a host of contenders for the annual BBC gong.
The last Athletics star to win the BBC SPOTY award was Mo Farah who was crowned Sports Personality of the Year in 2017. Farah had won Olympic gold medals in the 5,000 and 10,000 m races at the 2016 Rio Olympics and won the 2017 10,000 m Gold Medal in London as the city hosted the World Athletics Championships.
With Hodgkinson’s gold medal in Paris, she will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Farah and other british athletics stars such as Kelly Holmes in winning the prestigious award.

Darts sensation Luke Littler is rated a 6/1 second favourite after making an appearance in the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship Final at just 16 years of age (he has since turned 17). Mark Cavendish, who became the record holder for the most individual stage victories in the Tour de France this summer, is an 8/1 shot to win the coveted gong.
Mountain biker Tom Pidcock is a 25/1 shot after retaining his Olympic title in Paris, while Jude Bellingham is now at 33/1 having been a 4/1 favourite before England’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.
