Katie Taylor v Chantelle Cameron Preview

Katie Taylor will finally get her long-awaited opportunity to fight on Irish soil as a professional this weekend when she faces England's, Chantelle Cameron. While many expected and pleaded that her homecoming fight should take place at Croke Park since no agreement could be made it is the 3Arena on Saturday Night where the historic bout will be staged.

Taylor faces arguably one of the toughest fights of her career when she moves up in weight against Cameron looking to become a two-weight Undisputed Champion by adding the Super-Lightweight belts to the lightweight belts already in her possession further cementing herself in the history of boxing folklore.

As the fight comes close Taylor said “I have the experience of fighting in these big occasions. I have the experience of fighting when there is a lot of pressure on my shoulders….This is a huge occasion for me, and I’m just delighted to have a chance to fight at home. A few years ago, I didn’t think this was ever going to happen so I’m just so excited about it.”

Cameron has said “There’s a lot of respect there. But this is my career and my legacy and I’m coming to win…Katie is pound-for-pound the best women’s boxer there is and if I can win, I can walk away from boxing one day and think ‘I took out the best there is’.”

Taylor is known for her fast-paced, aggressive boxing style, but on a technical level specifically, she is different to the vast majority if not all other professional boxers.

The one criticism you could give to her is often  she can get drawn into slug feasts in her fights while trying to put on a show for the crowd rather than just pick her opponents off, there is a danger she could try and do the same, particularly in her homecoming fight in Dublin.

Despite Cameron (31) being the much younger fighter she was defeated by Taylor back in 2011 at the EU Championships losing to her in the Semi-Final.  Her best chance of victory would be the conserve energy in the earlier rounds, before going for the knockout against a tired Taylor before the fight ends.

Katie should still win this fight but the later rounds for Cameron will be her best chance of victory.

Prediction:  Katie Taylor by Decision or Technical Decision 8/11
