Fight Analysis
Trilogy fights are often made when the score between two fighters stands at one win apiece, but this bout is different, with Taylor winning the first two fights, albeit in controversial circumstances.
They first squared off at Madison Square Garden in April 2022, becoming the first female bout to headline the venue. Taylor won out in the end, defeating Serrano by split decision. Serrano’s aggressive style pushed Taylor to the ropes, nearly knocking her down in the fifth round, but Taylor’s precise counterattacks secured the win.
The second time they met was last November at the AT&T Stadium, Texas. Taylor narrowly defeated Serrano by unanimous decision (95-94), retaining her undisputed super lightweight, but that doesn’t tell the full story.
Serrano dominated early with powerful punches, but a cut from a headbutt, which led to a point deduction for Taylor, hindered her performance. Following Taylor’s win. Serrano’s camp criticised the judging and Taylor’s tactics, alleging that she was intentionally headbutting her opponent.
What They’ve Said
Katie Taylor: Ahead of the fight, Taylor has been adamant about her abilities and record against Serrano.
"The fact is, I am 2-0 against her. Opinions are opinions, but facts are facts. I'm just sick of the complaining and whining from your team."
Serrano, on the other hand, has been bullish in the build-up about setting the record straight following her two previous defeats in controversial circumstances.
"I'm going to use my head, but not the way it was used on me. "We're going to be smarter, work smarter. I did work a lot smarter for this fight, and I believe that we can come out victorious. We will come out victorious."

Taylor v Serrano Prediction
Given the tight, explosive nature of the first two bouts, along with the perceived controversial means of victory in both, it’s no surprise that the trilogy has come.
Taylor is arguably the more technical, better boxer, and if she can play her game and not get drawn into any slugfest, she can make it three consecutive wins.
Serrano, though, is two years younger, the harder hitter and far more explosive than Taylor; it’s not certain that the more senior Taylor will be able to cope with her power.
If the fight goes the distance, I think Taylor has the edge, but something is telling me this could be a stoppage victory for Serrano (unfortunately).
