The betting makes Josh Taylor a hot favourite as he defends his light-welterweight world titles against Jack Catterall on Saturday.

The Scottish star holds fond memories of the Glasgow OVO Hydro venue, which not only hosted his first world title win in 2019, but also his Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning bout back in 2014.

Taylor now returns to fight in his home country for the first time since the 2019 victory, with two bouts in London and his most recent outing in Las Vegas under his belt in between.

In Vegas last May he outscored American José Ramírez by unanimous decision to become the undisputed king of the division and at a red-hot 1/12, the question for many punters this week has been when he’ll see off Jack Catterall, and not if.

KOs
It's 18 victories without defeat now for 31-year-old Taylor, but someone’s unblemished record has to go as the English Southpaw heads north boasting an impeccable record of his own with 26 consecutive wins, half of which have come via knockout.

But the latest odds give him very little chance of maintaining his perfect record as he looks set to start a 13/2 underdog when the bell sounds on Saturday evening.

Of Taylor’s 18 wins, 13 have come by way of KO and that is by far the most likely method of victory again according to an odds-on price of 8/13, while it’s an odds-against chance at 13/10 (was 6/5) that the fight requires the judges’ scorecards to declare a winner.

The round betting has singled out the third quarter of the fight (rounds 7-9) as the most likely time to see a stoppage in favour of Taylor at 7/2, although anyone who fancies him to get the job done quicker by winning in rounds 1-6 can now take advantage of a price boost from 3/1 to 4/1.

For those predicting an upset, Catterall can be backed at 14/1 to win by KO, while at least 80/1 is up for grabs if you can nail which round he’ll win in.

But it’s all about the Tartan Tornado in the betting and if the trends this week are on the money, the home crowd are in little danger of going home disappointed.
