There have been big moves in the Next Republic of Ireland Manager odds with the current interim heavily backed to take over the role on a full-time basis.
John O'Shea Next Republic of Ireland Manager Odds
John O’Shea has been backed down to 3/1 from 14/1 with BoyleSports to get the Republic of Ireland manager’s job on a permanent basis as he prepares for his second appearance in the dugout against Switzerland.
The former Manchester United defender was appointed on an interim basis for two matches, but admitted he would be stepping away from the role reluctantly should his stint as temporary boss end as originally planned following Tuesday night’s friendly clash with the Swiss at the Aviva stadium.
Ireland missed an opportunity to pull off a shock result as Evan Ferguson missed a penalty on O’Shea’s bow as interim manager in a 0-0 draw with Belgium on Saturday, but the performance has seemingly boosted his chances of a permanent appointment and a victory over Switzerland could well put the Waterford man in pole position.
Next Republic of Ireland Manager Betting
In a tumultuous betting market since Stephen Kenny vacated the role in November, previous frontrunner Lee Carsley is now a remote 20/1 shot having taken himself out of the race, but former Brighton boss Gus Poyet is currently rated the 2/1 favourite.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, commented:
“Punters clearly believe John O’Shea is putting in a strong audition for the Ireland job and if they roll over the Swiss we wouldn’t be surprised to see this long-running saga put to bed.”
