With less than two weeks to go until the start of the Cheltenham Festival and a feast of top-class spring racing action to come, we are delighted to announce the launch of our new horse racing video podcast series.

Jockeys & Jackpots is here, brought to you by JOE in partnership with BoyleSports. This show will be delivering an unmissable mix of expert insights, bold predictions, and entertaining racing discussions.

What is Jockeys & Jackpots?

Hosted by Dave Orton, this fast-paced, fun, and insightful show will run for the next six weeks, covering the biggest events in the horse racing calendar – from Cheltenham to the Grand National, the Irish Grand National, and more!

Each week, Dave will be joined by a panel of two guests. One will be a horse racing expert, alternating between Luke Harvey, a former jockey as well as a successful broadcaster and horse racing trainer, and John ‘Shark’ Hanlon, an Irish horse racing trainer who is one of the sport’s biggest characters and best known for training superstar horse Hewick.

The Format

Jockeys & Jackpots follows a fast-paced, three-segment format designed to keep horse racing fans engaged and entertained:

  1. Out of the Gates – A discussion on the latest horse racing trends, key trainers, jockeys, and major talking points in the sport.
  2. Choose Wisely – A prediction-based game where guests go head-to-head, making bold calls on upcoming races and festival outcomes.
  3. In the Saddle – A deep dive into the celebrity guest’s personal connection with horse racing, sharing memorable experiences and insights.

Jockeys & Jackpots Launches with Exciting Episode 1

The debut episode sets the tone for the series as Made In Chelsea star and Talk Horse podcast host Tristan Phipps joins the panel alongside Cheltenham-winning jockey and racing broadcaster Luke Harvey.

First, in Out of the Gates they discuss the big stories in horse racing right now, including Paul Nicholls’ festival chances, Gavin Sheehan’s unique riding style, and Sam Thomas’ success transitioning from jockey to trainer, Tristan’s jockey to watch ahead of Cheltenham and reflections from a race for the ages in the Saudi Cup.

Then Choose Wisely sees Luke and Tristan go head-to-head with their takes on major festival predictions with plenty of disagreement. The two had their say on whether Dan Skelton will match his 4-winner success from Cheltenham 2024, Ballyburn’s chances of a second successive festival win, how far Constitution Hill will storm home by in the Champion Hurdle, plus more. Luke’s picks give us an 11/4 Cheltenham bet builder, while Tristan’s predictions make for a tasty 10/1 bet builder.

In the final segment, In the Saddle, we get to know more about Tristan’s deep-rooted love for horses as he tells us of his family’s Boxing Day traditions, his experience playing polo, which resulted in a trip to hospital, and what he’s learned from animals about life.
