Punters cold on weather woman winning Áras race
The race for Áras an Uachtaráin continues to heat up following Joanna Donnelly’s expression of interest in entering the election to succeed Michael D. Higgins.
The former meteorologist said this week that she will be seeking a nomination to run in the Irish Presidential contest, but despite the headlines, her path to victory is rated highly unlikely according to remote odds of 200/1 with bookie BOYLE Sports.
Musician and activist Bob Geldof, who also revealed interest in the race this week, is faring slightly better but still remains an outsider at 40/1. With an election date of 24th October set to be officially ratified, potential candidates will have three weeks to garner enough support to secure a nomination.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“There’s no doubt Joanna Donnelly has added a fresh gust to the race and Bob Geldof’s chances have struck a chord with a few, but neither is attracting major backing.”
At the top of the betting, former Dublin GAA manager Jim Gavin continues to lead the field at 11/10, with Heather Humphreys close behind at 15/8 after she was confirmed as Fine Gael’s nominee.
