Punters Tip Change At The Top
The odds on Jim O’Callaghan replacing Micheál Martin as leader of Fianna Fáil have collapsed into 1/6, with BOYLE Sports reporting a surge in speculation on a change in the top position.
The Taoiseach has come under fire recently following Jim Gavin’s withdrawal from the presidential campaign, and reports have suggested a number of TDs were plotting a motion of no confidence in their party leader.
Contender Darragh O’Brien?
O’Callaghan, Dublin Bay South TD since 2016, is now the overwhelming favourite among the potential candidates to step up if a battle for the top job is triggered, with Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien rated 5/1 second favourite in the betting.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“The murmurs around Micheál Martin’s position aren’t showing any signs of dying out, and a clear favourite to replace him has already emerged. Punters seem to be anticipating a leadership contest in the near future, and they have put Jim O’Callaghan in pole position should it come to pass.”
