Kerry actress set for Hollywood honour.

Irish actress Jessie Buckley looks destined for Oscar glory after her historic BAFTA victory sent bookmakers scrambling to slash her odds for the Academy Awards.

BOYLE Sports now rate the Killarney native a runaway favourite at 1/33 to land the famous statuette in Hollywood Best Actress after she made history in London on Sunday night by becoming the first Irish woman to win the BAFTA in the category.

Buckley collected the award from a previous Oscar winner and compatriot Cillian Murphy, himself the first Irishman to claim the Academy Award for Best Actor. Now, punters are increasingly certain Buckley will follow him into the history books for her acclaimed portrayal of Agnes Shakespeare in Hamnet, directed by Chloé Zhao.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:

“The odds suggest this year’s Best Actress Oscar is already written in the script and it’s going to take a major plot twist if Jessie Buckley doesn’t leave with the biggest prize of all.”

Oscars – Best Actress

1/33      Jessie Buckley (Hamnet)

14/1      Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You)

33/1      Emma Stone (Bugonia)

33/1      Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value)

40/1      Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue)
