A big-money buy after landing a couple of bumpers, this Paul Nicholls -trained gelding had a mixed campaign over hurdles last term but did prevail at this course and Wincanton before going close in Grade One company at Aintree .
The strapping six-year-old has always been regarded as a future star over fences, though, and is taken to start justifying that faith on his debut over the bigger obstacles in the Coral John Francome Novices’ Chase .
Newbury 14:25 Tip
Newbury 14:25 – Twinjets
Nicholls and Harry Cobden have another strong contender in the subsequent handicap chase, as this eight-year-old returned from a lengthy lay-off to make all in fine style at Fontwell last month.
That was a seventh win in 16 races under rules and Twinjets really does know how to get the job done.
Southwell 14:40 Tip
Southwell 14:40 – Dubai Honour
This well-travelled seven-year-old has been a real money spinner for William Haggas , amassing more than £5million in prize money thanks to his exploits all around the world.
He can warm up for another trip to Hong Kong with victory in the Listed Churchill Stakes .
Newbury 15:00 Tip
Newbury 15:00 – Impose Toi
Nicky Henderson's charge can make the leap from handicap success to Grade Two glory in the Coral Long Distance Hurdle.
The French import has been a model of consistency throughout his career and is yet to finish out of the first four in 14 starts, recording seven wins along the way.
Having performed with credit in a number of hot handicaps last term, Impose Toi kicked off the current campaign with a convincing victory at Aintree under 12st when tackling an extended three miles for the first time and now fully deserves this step up in class.
Soutwell 15:15 Tip
Southwell 15:15 – Alfa Kellenic
Having landed a six-timer in 2024 , this filly has been restricted to just two outings this year but she stepped up on a moderate return to action in the Ayr Gold Cup when placed at Newmarket and now looks the pick in the Golden Rose Stakes , especially if benefitting from a wind operation.
Newbury 15:35 Tip
Newbury 15:35 – Blue Carpet
Dan and Harry Skelton can continue their impressive run of results with a £20,000-plus handicap hurdle triumph for this lightly-raced five-year-old.
Blue Carpet still looked to have scope for improvement when scoring by eight lengths at short odds in a Wetherby maiden and doesn’t appear to have been assessed too harshly.
