Storm Goretti threatens to play havoc with this Saturday’s ITV racing tips , but we’re hoping to get the chance to bash the bookies with our best bets from Kempton and Warwick.
A whopping 10 races are scheduled to be shown on ITV4, and here are some selections for punters to consider if the latest blast of icy weather doesn’t interfere with those plans.
Warwick 13:52
WARWICK 13:52 – DOYEN QUEST
With five tricky fences down the back straight, the Grade Two Hampton Novices’ Chase over three miles is always a stiff test of jumping.
Dan Skelton has been successful with Grand National c ontender Galia Des Liteaux and Gold Cup hope Grey Dawning in recent years, and Doyen Quest can put his experience to good use here, having already had five runs over fences, including a course success.
Kempton 14:05
KEMPTON 14:05 – THE DOYEN CHIEF
A sharp three miles could be just the job for Alan King’s charge, having faltered late on after travelling strongly for a long way over two furlongs further at Cheltenham when last seen.
The Doyen Chief’s double strike last March came over this distance here and at Warwick , both times on good ground, so everything is set up nicely for a return to winning ways.
Warwick 14:55
WARWICK 14:55 – L’HOMME PRESSE
Venetia Williams’ popular veteran can stamp his class on the Classic Chase despite having to carry a welter burden of 12st.
The 11-year-old has been a grand servant for his connections, scoring as a novice chaser at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival and subsequently claiming Fleur De Lys and Cotswold Chase victories.
L’Homme Presse , who has also performed with great credit in major events like the King George and the Gold Cup , proved he can overcome a big weight when landing the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle a few years ago.
His career has featured significant injury setbacks, but last month’s Cheltenham second showed his current well-being and should have put him spot on for this valuable contest.
Kempton 15:17
KEMPTON 15:17 – LANESBOROUGH
Ben Pauling’s seven-year-old made a mockery of a mark of 116 when romping home at Doncaster on his seasonal reappearance, and even a 14lb uplift may not stop him from following up in the Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle.
That was just his seventh race under rules and a first outing for almost 10 months, so it seems reasonable to assume that this late bloomer still has lots more improvement left in him.
