Beverley 2.05 – Regional
Beverley 2.05 – Regional
Ed Bethell’s sprinter has been far from disgraced at elite level again this season and can take advantage of a drop in class to land the William Hill Beverley Bullet. Regional has been placed in the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan and Royal Ascot’s King Charles III Stakes while he was slightly hampered by a loose noseband when fourth in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville last time.
Everything suggests the likeable seven-year-old retains all his old enthusiasm and he has always been equally adept over five and six furlongs.
Sandown 2.25 – Cathedral
Sandown 2.25 – Cathedral
The powerful Amo Racing-owned filly has been frustrating to follow this season but will hopefully have been freshened up by a switch of stables from Ralph Beckett to Kevin Philippart De Foy ahead of the BetMGM Atalanta Stakes. An €800,000 purchase, the daughter of Too Darn Hot was an impressive Lingfield scorer on her juvenile debut and then finished second in GroupThree company at Newmarket.
Cathedral has twice been a beaten favourite at the same level this term but in between those efforts she kept on nicely to be fourth in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, so we haven’t given up on her just yet.
Chester 2.40 – Tabletalk
Chester 2.40 – Tabletalk
Tom Clover’s colt was twice a winner last term at Chelmsford and York, coming good at this time of year to land the ultra-competitive Melrose Handicap on the Knavesmire. He kicked off the current campaign with a couple of near misses at Newbury before being pitched in at the deep end against Rebel’s Romance and Al Riffa in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot.
A subsequent third behind Al Qareem at York was a touch disappointing but Tabletalk travelled extremely well for a long way and isn’t the first horse to be worn out by duelling with the winner, so let’s keep the faith in this Listed-class affair.
Sandown 3.35 – Publish
Sandown 3.35 – Publish
John and Thady Gosden’s two-year-old was a real eyecatcher when second on his racecourse bow at Sandown, going down by just half a length after repeatedly being denied a clear run throughout the final two furlongs.
The Kingman colt confirmed that promise when coming home strongly to score at the same track, getting the better of a nice battle with subsequent Yarmouth scorer Catullus, who was over four lengths clear of the third. This physically imposing individual steps up in class for the Group Three BetMGM Solario Stakes but has the scope to cope.
