George Boughey’s juvenile created a big impression when powering clear for an easy victory on his racecourse debut at Newbury last month and fully deserves a step up in grade for the Listed Betting.Betfair Ascendent Stakes.

The son of Night Of Thunder is related to several useful performers, including Royal Rhyme, Sharja Queen and Zabeel Queen, and has the potential to prove very smart himself.

Kalpana will be the star attraction at Kempton when warming up for a shot at Arc glory in the opening September Stakes but will be a short price, so we’re taking a punt on this Unibet London Mile Series Final contender for a bit more value instead.

A Godolphin cast-off earlier this year, the Dubawi gelding, out of a Frankel mare, took a while to settle in with new handler Ian Williams but a recent Ripon success made it three wins in his last five races and there could still be more improvement to come.

Karl Burke’s charge went into plenty of notebooks as an unlucky loser at Goodwood, when he was bumped at the start and slowly away before staying on to finish third of 20, despite encountering more trouble in running late on.

Previously a nice scorer at Newcastle, the Wathnan Racing-owned four-year-old remains one to follow and the booking of Ascot specialist Jamie Spencer only adds to his appeal in the Schweppes Handicap.

HAYDOCK 15:35 – NO HALF MEASURES

HAYDOCK 15:35 – NO HALF MEASURES @ 8/1

Richard Hughes’ filly was a 66/1 outsider when battling on bravely to beat Big Mojo in the July Cup at Newmarket but can show that was no fluke with another strong Group One showing in the Betfair Sprint Cup.

The four-year-old has decent Haydock form from when previously second in the Achilles Stakes over five furlongs and is arguably more effective over this trip of six, having now won her last four races at the slightly longer distance.

No Half Measures will not be inconvenienced by this week’s wet weather, as she was a heavy-ground winner at Newbury last September before finishing a creditable fifth in the Prix de l’Abbaye at ParisLongchamp on very soft ground.
