Formula 1 Finish Line

Oscar Piastri struck a huge blow in the Formula One title race last weekend and is fancied to move another step closer to championship glory in our Italian Grand Prix predictions.

With nine rounds remaining, the Australian is 34 points clear at the top of the table after leading from start to finish in Holland, where team-mate Lando Norris suffered an engine failure seven laps from the end.

Monza will provide a much different test to the twists and turns of Zandvoort, with the Temple of Speed being the fastest circuit on the calendar due to its long straights and sweeping corners.

McLaren have won 12 of this year’s 15 races, though, and are chasing a sixth straight success this weekend.

Piastri, who was only denied victory here 12 months ago by Charles Leclerc’s crucial one-stop strategy, is 7-5 up on his partner in race wins and prevailed at other high-powered tracks in Saudi Arabia and Belgium.

All that suggests Evens for Piastri to come out on top again is a fair price from the Italian Grand Prix odds.

Norris to Rally?

Can Norris rally after Zandvoort blow?

Norris is available at 15/8 to bounce back at Monza, and team principal Andrea Stella believes the 25-year-old will be motivated by that Dutch disappointment.

“If anything, we may see even a better version of Lando because now is the time to extract if there is anything more, even more out of his potential,” Stella said.

“So, I look forward to seeing Lando in the coming races. I’m sure this is going to be a great spectacle for Formula One, and if anything, it’s going to make the competition with Oscar even more interesting.

“We know that his talent is immense, and I’m sure this situation in the championship will give him extra motivation to try and extract it.”

However, pole-sitter Piastri overcame three safety-car restarts to triumph in Zandvoort, where Norris was unable to really threaten his team-mate.

Why Hamilton is Encouraged Despite Dutch DNF

Hamilton encouraged despite Dutch DNF

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who passed the chequered flag first at Monza in 2022 and 2023, is quoted at 13/2 to secure a third success of the season following his runner-up finish in the Netherlands.

Leclerc is 12/1 to repeat last year’s heroics and give Ferrari a third home win in seven renewals, with the Monegasque driver also prevailing in 2019.

Both Ferrari cars failed to finish in Zandvoort, but team-mate Lewis Hamilton felt there were some encouraging signs over the three days.

The seven-time world champion, who is 40/1 to claim a record sixth success in this race, said: “Apart from that, it’s been a really solid weekend.

“I felt like I made progress, just overall approach and everything. I was catching George (Russell), and I think I had the pace of a few cars ahead of me.”

Hamilton is 9/1 to make the podium and EVS to finish in the top six, although the British legend will start with a five-place grid penalty carried over from Holland.
