Connolly Runaway Expected
Voting is under way in the Irish Presidential election, and the latest odds from BOYLE Sports suggest Catherine Connolly is on the verge of victory. Connolly has been backed into 1/50 to defeat her rival Heather Humphreys, who was rated the 16/1 underdog as polling stations opened this morning.
The betting also points to a record low turnout, which is a red-hot odds-on shot at 1/6.
Short odds of 6/5 suggest voter participation could even dip below 37%, which would comfortably fall below the lowest turnout ever recorded in an Irish Presidential election. (Current lowest: 43.9% in 2018).
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
"The betting has been one-way traffic in favour of Catherine Connolly and the majority seem convinced she’s heading for the Áras. And while Heather Humphreys faces an uphill struggle according to the odds, punters reckon the real battle could be keeping turnout from sinking to record lows."
