Irish Oaks Betting Tips

Lope De Lilas Best Backed For Oaks Success

The Willie Mullins-trained Lope De Lilas remains the best-backed filly ahead of Saturday’s Irish Oaks with BoyleSports, who makes the three-year-old an 11/2 chance to land Closutton a second Classic.

The Leopardstown maiden winner had been as big as 9/1 earlier this week, but market support has seen her shorten into third favourite behind Aidan O’Brien’s recent Ribblesdale winner, Port Fairy (5/1) and race favourite, Content (3/1).

Aidan O’Brien Aiming For More Irish Oaks Glory

Ballydoyle are set to launch a three-pronged attack on Saturday’s feature, a race O’Brien has landed eight times, with Group 3 winning two-year-old Content usurping Port Fairy as their best chance according to the oddsmakers.

Content has failed to fire this season in the Coronation Stakes and the Pretty Polly after a fine effort when fourth on her final start as a juvenile at the Breeders’ Cup. The daughter of dual Nunthorpe winner Mecca’s Angel has been strong in the betting, however, with Ryan Moore electing to ride her over stablemate Port Fairy. The Ballydoyle jockey bookings have triggered support that has seen her odds cut into 3/1 favourite (from 6/1).

With Port Fairy falling out of favour at 4/1 (from 11/4), punters envisage Content and Lope De Lilas battling it out as the jumps and flat champion trainers clash on the Curragh.

Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said:

“It’s been a really turbulent market for the Irish Oaks, but support continues to be relentless for the Willie Mullins-trained Lope De Lilas. She is a major liability for Saturday and unbelievably, we could be cheering home an Aidan O’Brien favourite to dodge a big pay-out!”
