Cheap Sandwiches favourite for final feast
Glengar Silent has shortened into 9/2 joint second favourite (from 8/1) to win the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby ahead of Saturday’s final at Shelbourne Park.
Despite lining up in the weaker of the two semi-finals on paper, the Pat Buckley-trained prospect grabbed the spotlight and plenty of market support in the process as he thundered home in 29.26, ahead of Droopys Deploy and Magical Mag.
Market Movers
The latest market moves mean Glengar Silent joins Proper Heiress on 9/2 after the UK raider reached the final following a reprieve from the stewards in an action packed semi-final opener. With Oreo Ollie disqualified, Barefoot On Song was promoted to second, while Mark Wallis’ star was awarded third place to keep the dream of a first UK-trained winner since 1997 alive.
However, the drama behind was of little concern to runaway winner Cheap Sandwiches, who grabbed a 12-length victory in a rapid 29.14 to tighten his grip on outright favouritism.
Last year’s gallant runner-up is set to go off in the final from trap five as the one they all have to beat according to odds of 8/15 with BOYLE Sports, a victory which would hand a record fifth win in the prestigious competition to trainer Graham Holland.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“Cheap Sandwiches leads the charge on paper for Saturday’s showdown, but some formidable challengers are lining up so we don’t expect it to be bread and butter for the favourite once the traps rise.”
