UK raider rated main danger
Cheap Sandwiches is the hot odds-on favourite at 8/15 with the sponsor to be top dog in Saturday’s BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby Final.
Last year’s gallant runner-up is set to go off from trap five as the one they all have to beat according to the betting, after he romped to a 12-length victory in a rapid 29.14 in last weekend’s opening semi-final. A victory in the Shelbourne Park showdown would hand a record fifth win in the prestigious competition to trainer Graham Holland.
Market Mover
Glengar Silent has been backed down to 5/1 (from 8/1) after winning the second semi-final in impressive fashion, but Proper Heiress is rated the second favourite at 9/2 in his bid to become the first UK-trained winner of the Irish Greyhound Derby since 1997.
Droopys Deploy and Magical Mag, who qualified behind Glengar Silent, are 25/1 and 10/1 shots respectively, while Kilkenny trainer Paul Hennessy will need an upset of the odds if he is to celebrate victory with 40/1 outsider Barefoot On Song.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“There are some formidable challengers lining up in Saturday’s final, but Cheap Sandwiches has impressed throughout and plenty of punters think it’ll be bread and butter for the favourite.”
