BoyleSports cut Guilfoyle into 10/3 from 4/1 this week, meaning he has taken over from Graham Holland who was the original favourite.

Guilfoyle, pictured above, enjoyed first round success with the likes of Good Cody, Magical Kuba and Wi Can Dream with the former now the 12/1 second favourite in the antepost betting to win the €125,000 top prize after producing the fastest clock in the opening round of 29.25.

Holland has been eased out to 7/2 from 5/2, but he still has a huge chance with the likes of Bockos Budsit and Romeo Magico.

Pat Buckley is 4/1 to train the winner as he boasts 10/1 favourite Ballinabola Ed, as well as the likes of Singalong Sally, Tullig Raven and Bobsleigh Dream.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “It was a brilliant first round for Patrick Guilfoyle who laid down his BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby marker with some fantastic winners.

"He has the likes of Good Cody and Wi Can Dream and we are not one bit surprised to see him backed into favourite to be the winning trainer.

"He is now 10/3 from 4/1 with Graham Holland eased out to 7/2 from 5/2, so we will see if the second-round results bring about a change.”

Meanwhile, Mustang Jet is coming in for strong support to land the 2022 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby after a terrific start in the opening round last Friday.

The Dolores Ruth trained star laid down his marker in this year’s renewal when winning heat 1 in 29.43 and obliging for favourite backers at a short 4/9.

This son of Droopys Jet and Mustang Kay Cee won by 4½ lengths to Own Spice and has been backed into 16/1 from 20/1 since his win.

His odds have been gradually trimmed from a high of 33/1 on the week building up to his run, so he is being well supported with the sponsors.

Tullig Raven was an eye-catching winner of heat 2 for trainer Pat Buckley as he produced a very fast 29.38 to win by eight lengths to Kingdom Bound.

The son of Droopys Sydney and Hail Cleopatra has been trimmed into 25/1 from 50/1 to win the €125,000 prize.

Other heat winners that been cut in the betting include English Greyhound Derby champion Romeo Magico.

The Graham Holland trained star is now 14/1 from 16/1 after putting in a huge effort to finish second to Well Met, but his odds were much bigger during the week at 25/1.

Heat 11 winner Droopys Nice One is 25/1 from 33/1, heat 15 winner Bobsleigh Dream is 33/1 from 40/1, heat 16 winner Galloping Sydney is 66/1 from 100/1 and runner-up in heat 25 Singalong Sally is 40/1 from 50/1.

A new track record is always a popular choice with punters and the sponsors are offering 8/1 for it to be smashed this year.

Sarah Kinsella added: “Ballinabola Ed might be the new favourite but support is being well spread out after the opening round with some superb performances.

"Mustang Jet got the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby off to a flying start when winning heat 1 in 29.43 and his odds have been clipped into 16/1 from 33/1 over the last week.

"Good Cody was the fastest heat winner, but has been eased out to 12/1 from 10/1 with Ed now the stand alone favourite.”
