The Pat Buckley trained youngster became the first greyhound to book his spot in the quarter finals and has been all the rage with greyhound enthusiasts ever since his debut run at Tralee in July, when he broke the track record for the 525 yards trip clocking 28.03.

We knew he was going to be a special addition to the derby and he stamped his authority on Saturday night when beating Explosive Boy by a length and a half in 29.56 on a wet night at Shelbourne Park.

The sponsors have reacted by cutting his odds into 12/1 from 25/1, meaning he is closing the gap on the frontrunners. The Patrick Guilfoyle trained Explosive Boy remains 14/1 and is one step closer to reaching the final for the second year in a row.

Crafty Kokoro was a very classy winner for Peter Divilly as she came from the clouds to beat Born Warrior by a length in 29.65.

BoyleSports have cut the 2022 Corn Cuchulainn champion into 25/1 from 50/1 with hope still remaining that a bitch can win the title again after Susie Sapphire’s incredible victory in 2021.

Owen McKenna enjoyed a fruitful night with a fine double recorded. Callaway Masters won heat 4 in 29.86 and is 50/1 from 66/1, while Callaway Pro Am is rated to have a better chance after he won his heat in 29.76 to go 10/1 from 20/1 in the betting.

English Greyhound Derby champion Romeo Magico was sublime and is getting better each round.

He is 6/1 from 14/1 and his kennelmate Bockos Budsit is 16/1 from 20/1 after he won heat 7 in 29.59. Vincenzo was the fastest heat winner of the night in 29.49 with his odds clipped into 12/1 from 14/1 for trainer Patrick Guilfoyle.

Barefoot Supremo is 16/1 from 20/1 after winning his heat in 29.66 for trainer Paul Hennessy.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “The staff at Shelbourne Park battled tough weather conditions all day to make sure racing could go ahead and we were treated to eight terrific heat winners.

"We are now at the quarter-final stage with Tullig Raven certainly catching the eye and he is now 12/1 from 25/1 to win the €125,000 prize.”
