Actress also odds-on for Oscar

Irish film fans should have plenty to cheer this weekend as bookie BOYLE Sports rates Jessie Buckley a near certainty to add a BAFTA to her growing list of accolades.

The Killarney native is priced as a runaway favourite at 1/20 in the leading actress category for Sunday’s ceremony at London’s Royal Festival Hall, with other nominees Rose Byrne, Renate Reinsve, Kate Hudson, Chase Infiniti and Emma Stone cast adrift in the betting.

Buckley has already bagged a Golden Globe for her acclaimed performance as Agnes Shakespeare in Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and the oddsmakers believe a BAFTA won’t be the last high-profile honour she collects before awards season is out.

Irish eyes will turn to Hollywood next month, where Buckley is also a hot favourite at 1/25 to scoop the biggest prize of all by landing the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:

“Jessie Buckley’s chances of BAFTA success look box-office strong and the odds suggest there’s a Hollywood sequel waiting in the wings as she’s firmly in the spotlight heading into the Oscars.”
