Ireland Form

This past decade or so has been a “golden period” for Irish Rugby, in fact since 2014 no side has been more successful in the Six Nations with six of the last fourteen Championships going to the Emerald Isle with England the next best on three. Their 2024 Six Nations success meant they won back-to-back champions for only the third time in history, emulating the class of 1949 and 2015 another Championship victory would set a new Irish record.

Ireland concluded their 2024 with a drawn series with World Champions South Africa in July. In the Autumn Series, they opened it with a 12-23 loss to New Zealand before finishing the season in style with wins over Argentina, Fiji and Australia.

Their Six Nations campaign commenced against potential banana-skin England and though they conceded some late tries they did enough in the early stages to earn a 27-22 win but struggled to break down the English defence at times. In their second fixture, they proved far too strong against the Scots running out 18-32 winners at Murrayfield,

They continued their 100% start to the Six Nations in round 4 and thus confirmed another triple crown success. A rotated Irish side underestimated the underperforming Welsh only holding out for an 18-27 win at the Millennium Stadium.

France Form

Since French Head Coach Fabien Galthié was appointed in 2019, he’s had the remarkable feat of making the unpredictable French, predictable and in a positive sense with a win rate of 77.19% winning 44/57 matches.  At the same time, they’ve been paradoxically less successful with only the 2022 Six Nations title to their name since 2011 with their last success before that coming in 2020.

Following their runners-up finish to Ireland in the 2024 Six Nations they concluded their seasons with a drawn series against Argentina along with a win over Uruguay in the summer. In the Autumn Series, they performed brilliantly to close out the season with a 52-12 win over Japan, a 30-29 thriller against New Zealand and a 37-23 win over Argentina.

Their 2025 Six Nations Championship commenced with a dominant showing winning 43-0 which was France’s second biggest win against Wales since their 51-0 win over them during the 1998 Five Nations. However, that was followed by a late 26-25 defeat against England after conceding a last-minute converted try.

More recently, they were back at their rampant best against Italy blowing them away with a 24-73 victory that included eleven tries!

Key Players

Jamison Gibson-Park -Ireland

The winners of Saturday's top-of-the-table Six Nations Championship clash may come down to a battle of the #9s with the better performer likely to land on the winning side. In the green corner, we have Leinster scrum-half Jamison Gibson Park who has appeared 41 times since debuting in 2020 for Ireland scoring 35 points.

He was exceptional in their opener against England, controlling the temp and distributing effectively. He pulled the strings against the Scots and was one of their better performers in the limp win over the Welsh.

Antoine Dupont - France

Antoine Dupont (28), France and Toulouse Captain and Scrum-Half, is the best in his position in the World and consistently shows himself to be excellent defensively with freakish strength for his size. Expect everything to go through him at the weekend and he will be the driving force behind everything good about France.

In their opening demolition of Wales, Dupont was superb becoming the first to provide a hat-trick of try assists in two separate Men’s Six Nations matches (also 4 vs Ireland in 2021). He was also imperious in their win over Italy scoring a brace of tries

Ireland v France Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction: Ireland 25-26 France

Ireland has already secured another Triple Crown success, but know a win in this would almost guarantee their consecutive Six Nations Championship and set up a final day Grand Slam clash.

France have been somewhat unlucky under their Galthie that they haven’t won more silverware and the top tournament scorers can’t be underestimated at the weekend.

I think this will be a tight game, but I fancy France to claim a narrrow victory.
