The 230th edition of the Milan Derby takes centre stage in Serie A on Saturday and Inter Milan are favourites in the betting to cement their place at the head of the table.

Home advantage takes on less relevance, but the league leaders play host at the San Siro in what promises to be one of the most important matches of the season, with AC Milan four points adrift in third having played a game more than their city rivals.

Inter’s bid for back-to-back Serie A titles has been boosted by a formidable run of form of late with nine wins and a draw from their last ten league matches and Simone Inzaghi will be hopeful that his side can continue a run of scoring in every domestic match they’ve played at the San Siro this season, including the reverse fixture which finished in a 1-1 draw.

That was the 56th league draw between the sides since they first met in 1909, making AC Milan the side Inter have drawn against the most in Serie A, while Stefano Pioli’s ‘visitors’ will be posting successive league draws for the first time since December 2020 if this one ends in a stalemate.

The Rossoneri have scored in five of the last six head-to-heads in which they were the ‘away’ side, but their goal threat this weekend could be blunted by the potential absence of Swedish talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the oldest player to find the net in the history of the fixture.

He is said to be struggling to recover from injury in time for the match, which could leave Olivier Giroud leading the line in what will be his first Milan derby.

The French forward has now shortened into 6/1 from 13/2 to bag the opening goal of the game, while Rafael Leao is a popular 5/2 shot to score at any time having netted three times across AC Milan’s last five matches.

Inter’s strikeforce of Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez meanwhile have 20 league goals between them this season and not only are Inzaghi’s side Serie A’s top scorers with 53 goals in their 22 matches to date, but they can also boast the second meanest defence in the league with only 17 goals conceded.

Martinez is out on his own as the most likely first goalscorer in the match at 4/1 with Dzeko hot on his heels at 9/2. The prolific front men could help Inter boost their all-time lead in the head-to-head with 84 wins (versus 77 defeats) and they are a shade of odds-on at 5/6 to go seven points clear, with second place Napoli not playing until Sunday.
