Check out the latest IFTA odds as the stars come out to celebrate another outstanding year for Irish television and film.
IFTA Odds – Best Film
Irish language movie Kneecap has been made the 1/3 favourite by BoyleSports to win the award for Best Film at Friday’s IFTAs.
The semi-biographical comedy-drama, starring the hip-hop trio as themselves, missed out on Oscar nominations in the two categories in which it was shortlisted, but has already bagged top gongs at the Sundance Film Festival and British Independent Film Awards.
Recognition closer to home is now being backed after Kneecap received 17 nominations across the film categories when the IFTA candidates were revealed last month, with hot competition coming from Small Things Like These (3/1), starring Oscar winner Cillian Murphy.
IFTA Odds – Lead Actor
Following Murphy’s Best Actor victory at the IFTAs last year for Oppenheimer , the Cork native is in the running again at 6/4, although a competitive category this year includes the three Kneecap boys, Peter Coonan (for King Frankie ) and Paul Mescal, for his starring role in Gladiator II .
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “A star-studded cast is set to hit the red carpet in Dublin on Friday night and if the odds are on the money, one movie could steal the show. Kneecap already has several accolades in the bag and the Oscars snub has done nothing to stop Irish punters backing it to clean up.”
IFTA Odds – Best Drama
On the TV front, 2023 winner Bad Sisters is back in the frame for Best Drama alongside Netlfix thriller Bodkin and The Dry , but the award is being backed to go the way of Say Nothing (1/3 favourite), which secured a leading ten nominations among the TV dramas.
