In this post, we take a look at the latest I Am Maximus Grand National odds as there has been strong support for a number of JP McManus hopefuls.

I Am Maximus Grand National Odds

Last year’s BoyleSports Irish Grand National winner I Am Maximus has been backed from 10/1 into 7/1 with BoyleSports to complete a famous National double at Aintree this week.

With weather conditions remaining unsettled in the lead-up to the Aintree feature, I Am Maximus, who won the Irish equivalent on soft ground before following up at Grade One level in the Drinmore Novices’ Chase at Fairyhouse, should have no problem with conditions if the going remains testing at the Liverpool track.

Last seen beating fellow Aintree hopeful Vanillier (9/1) at the County Meath track in a race named after Bobbyjo, who completed the ‘National Double’ for Tommy Carberry, the eight-year-old has come in for sustained support in recent days.

With the majority of this year’s 34 runners set to hail from Ireland, John McConnell’s Mahler Mission has also been backed into 14/1 from 16/1 while Limerick Lace, last seen winning the Mares’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival has seen her odds cut from 25/1 into 16/1 for Gavin Cromwell.

Limerick Lace would become the first mare to win the race since Nickel Coin in 1951, but a number of mares have run well in defeat including King Johns Castle who was second in the race in 2008 and Magic Of Light who finished second to Tiger Roll in 2019.

Corach Rambler remains the likeliest UK-based winner as he bids to win two Grand Nationals in a row but has eased out to 9/2 from 4/1 while money continues to come for Gary Moore’s Welsh Grand National winner Nassalam, who has halved in price from 40/1 into 20/1. Connections of the mudlark, however, may not have liked what they saw with the most recent weather forecast, which suggests weather may improve significantly from Thursday onwards.

Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said:

“Excitement is starting to build as we enter Grand National week, with a number of horses seeing sustained support. Punters are starting to desert another fairytale success for Lucinda Russell and I Am Maximus is the one they’re backing to complete a famous National double.”
