Seán Kelly cut adrift in President betting
Heather Humphreys is now neck and neck with Catherine Connolly in the race to be elected Irish President according to the latest shift in the odds.
With Humphreys set to beat Seán Kelly to the Fine Gael nomination, her chances of taking up residence in Áras an Uachtaráin have been clipped into 11/8 by BOYLE Sports, meaning she shares favouritism with Labour-backed Independent TD Catherine Connolly. Kelly meanwhile has been Pushed out to 16/1 (from 4/1).
Other Contenders Considered
Humphreys had been an 80/1 outsider before previous favourite Mairead McGuinness withdrew from the presidential race on health grounds.
Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern (4/1) and Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald (6/1) are also considered possible runners with other parties yet to show their hand.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“The betting has taken a sharp turn recently with Heather Humphreys now joining Catherine Connolly as joint favourite to succeed Michael D. Higgins. Punters clearly see her as a serious contender and with two front-runners emerging, it’s all to play for in the race for the Áras.”
