If you’ve been wondering ‘How does qualification for Euro 2024 work?’ then you are in the right place as we explain all you need to know!
Euro 2024, the main tournament, will begin on the 14th of June 2024 and run until the Euro 2024 Final on the 14th of July 2024.
While the teams with the higher seeding will generally have a better chance at qualification for Euro 2024, that doesn’t mean that qualification is guaranteed as we have seen many occasions in the past where ‘bigger’ teams have failed to qualify for the European Championship finals.
The rest of the 53 UEFA countries were split up into 10 qualifying groups. Seven of those groups contain five teams while the other three groups contain six teams.
Group B: Netherlands, France, Republic of Ireland, Greece and Gibraltar
Group C: Italy, England, Ukraine, North Macedonia and Malta
Group D: Croatia, Wales, Armenia, Turkey and Latvia
Group E: Poland, Czech Republic, Albania, Faroe Islands and Moldova
Group F: Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Azerbaijan and Estonia
Group G: Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Lithuania
Group I: Switzerland, Israel, Romania, Kosovo, Belarus and Andorra
Group J: Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Luxembourg, Slovakia and Liechtenstein
The group winners of Leagues A, B and C will qualify for a spot in the play-offs but if they have already qualified for the tournament through the Euro 2024 group qualifiers then the next best ranked teams in their league will be awarded a play-off spot.
