With Willie Mullins having sent over the last two winners, we’re examining the chances of an Irish hat-trick at Ayr on Saturday in our Scottish Grand National tips.
Emerald Isle raiders again feature prominently in the betting market after four were declared among the 21 remaining entries and here’s how we rate them in reverse order:

Scottish Grand National Tips: Irish Contenders Ranked
Promontory
4. Promontory – 20/1
This gelding gave Waterford handler Sarah Connell her first winner when landing a Limerick maiden hurdle just over 12 months ago and made it third time lucky over fences by staying on strongly to secure a decisive victory in the Dublin National at Leopardstown last month.
A 14lb rise up the ratings is obviously worrying, but Promontory is open to more improvement and has a proven big-race rider on board in Donagh Meyler, who will be full of confidence after claiming BOYLE Sports Irish Grand National glory on Soldier In Milan.
Blaze The Way
3. Blaze The Way – 20/1
Danny Mullins partnered Macdermott to victory in this race two years ago for his uncle Willie and will be eyeing another successful family affair on his mum Margaret’s charge this term.
Blaze The Way is still technically a novice over fences but did land a valuable handicap in open company at Cheltenham in December when comfortably accounting for L’Homme Presse and was not disgraced in finishing seventh in the Ultima at the Festival.
Road To Home
2. Road To Home – 7/1
Having fired plenty of bullets for the past two years, Willie Mullins this time relies on just this consistent seven-year-old, who has already shown he doesn’t suffer from travel sickness on several occasions.
Road To Home was a fair third at Doncaster in November and Newbury in December before putting in a career-best effort when finishing a neck second to the reopposing Ask Brewster in the 23-runner Kim Muir at Cheltenham.
Patrick Mullins was in the saddle on each occasion and clearly gets on well with the seven-year-old, as they also teamed up to win a Hexham maiden hurdle last spring.
Kim Roque
1. Kim Roque – 9/2
Joseph O’Brien went close to landing the Aintree Grand National with third-placed Jordans and he will be hoping this promising six-year-old can just last home better than his stablemate did on Merseyside.
Kim Roque has been an eye-catcher on several occasions since joining the Owning Hill handler last autumn, not least when finishing fourth in the Kim Muir after not quite getting the rub of the green at a key stage early on up the home straight.
With J J Slevin due to ride, the French import has been the subject of strong ante-post support and O’Brien said: “He ran very well at Cheltenham, he has a Scottish owner (Ronnie Bartlett) and you tend to get better ground there.”
