We’ve got a magnificent seven ITV racing tips from this Friday’s top-class action at Newmarket, Ascot and Goodwood.
The Group Two Jockey Club Stakes headlines the opening day of the Guineas Festival at HQ, while it is Royal Ascot Trials Day over in Berkshire.
Newmarket Tips
Newmarket Tips Friday
14:20 – Poseidon’s Warrior
Godolphin’s Sea The Stars colt showed promise as a juvenile, finishing second at Haydock before going one better at Goodwood, and there was a lot to like about the way he came home when returning to action with a runner-up effort over slightly shorter at this track.
14:55 – Lake Como
George Boughey has a big weekend coming up with 2000 Guineas favourite Bow Echo and this progressive three-year-old can give the stable a confidence boost if transferring his fine all-weather form to turf.
15:30 Jockey Club Stakes – Lion’s Pride
A half-brother to a Gold Cup-winning former stablemate in Courage Mon Ami, this Gosden-trained son of Roaring Lion has been a slow burner but it was impossible to be anything but impressed by his runaway victory in the Godolphin Stakes here last season.
Following a couple of slightly disappointing efforts in the Middle East over the winter, Lion’s Pride made an encouraging return to Britain when not beaten far into fourth by the exciting Convergent in the John Porter at Newbury recently and is expected to go well in the Jockey Club Stakes.
16:05 – Elarak
Three times a winner last year, including a course and distance victory on his final outing, the Kingman gelding looked sure to come on for his comeback fourth at Thirsk.

14:35 Sagaro Stakes – Sweet William (NAP)
While John and Thady Gosden’s charge has more placed efforts to his name than wins, there is no doubting he is one of the country’s top stayers and he has just been unfortunate to bump into his illustrious stablemate Trawlerman on a few occasions.
He proved he has not forgotten how to win when successfully defending his Doncaster Cup crown in September and was a clear best of the rest behind Trawlerman on his most recent appearance on Champions Day at Ascot.
His biggest threat, Caballo De Mar, does have the benefit of a recent outing, but Sweet William is in receipt of 2lb despite being rated 3lb higher and the excellent spring form of the Gosden string suggests he will be ready enough to do himself justice on his seasonal bow in the Sagaro Stakes.
15:10 Commonwealth Cup Trial – Wise Approach
Charlie Appleby’s Middle Park Stakes winner is difficult to oppose in the Commonwealth Cup Trial.
The three-year-old carries a 4lb penalty for his Group One victory, but his overall juvenile form is by far and away the best on offer, with the Mehmas colt also going close in the Prix Morny as well as finishing second to Charles Darwin in the Norfolk Stakes at the Royal meeting.
He is a half-brother to Perfect Power, who also won the Middle Park before going on to lift the Commonwealth Cup the following season, and Wise Approach can cement his claims for the latter contest with a course and distance success at Group Three level.
Goodwood Tips
Goodwood Tips Friday
15:50 – Ryka
David O’Meara has been on a decent run of form recently, so the fact that he sends just one runner all the way down from North Yorkshire has to be noteworthy, especially as this filly has won first time out for the last two seasons.
