The prestigious Darley Dewhurst Stakes is the highlight of this Saturday’s ITV racing tips from Newmarket and York .
Punters can also get stuck into one of the biggest betting events of the entire Flat season at HQ , with the Cesarewitch always a hotly contested staying handicap, while there are some typically wide-open events up north on the Knavesmire .
Here are our top selections to consider:
13:15 Newmarket Tip
13:15 NEWMARKET – BOILING POINT @ 7/1
This likeable five-year-old can notch a second victory of the season for Karl Burke in the Modern Games Darley Stakes . Having won the Cambridgeshire last year off top-weight, Boiling Point has been forced into Pattern races this term and has performed with credit. A Listed winner at Goodwood in May, he should be able to dominate in this small field and we know he likes the track.
13:30 York Tip
13:30 YORK – CUT A DASH @ 7/2
Richard Hannon ’s juvenile has been set some stiff tasks since winning on his debut at the Dante meeting on the Knavesmire back in May. He was fourth in the Coventry Stakes after that and while he has failed to win since, his three-length fifth in the Mill Reef is just about the best piece of form on offer in the Rockingham Stakes .
14:25 Newmarket Tip
14:25 NEWMARKET – ROCK MONTREAL @ 6/4
Roger Varian was very pleased with this colt’s effort when narrowly beaten by Forbidden Fire in the Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster , so much so that he contemplated running him in the Dewhurst . Instead, he has gone for the Emirates Autumn Stakes over a mile, which looks a safer bet given Rock Montreal probably ran a bit green in defeat on Town Moor , so the extra furlong will suit.
15:00 Newmarket Tip
15:00 NEWMARKET – DESERT CASTLE (NAP) @ 4/5
Given the way Sheikh Mohammed has been spending at the sales this week, he is clearly keen to see his royal blue silks dominate once again and Godolphin already have a hugely promising juvenile competing in the Group One Dewhurst Stakes . Desert Castle made his debut at Newmarket in August when the word was clearly out, as he was an odds-on winner .
The Charlie Appleby-trained Frankel colt then stepped up to Group Two level in the Champagne Stakes , where he easily dispatched of Aidan O’Brien’s Listed winner Sergei Diaghilev . Beating another Ballydoyle rival in Darkness Falls represents a stiffer task, but that Irish raider’s best furlong was his last over a mile-and-one at Leopardstown last time and Desert Castle should have too much speed in this seven-furlong feature.
15:17 York Tip
15:17 YORK – COUL ANGEL @ 5/1
Mick Appleby ’s sprinter was last seen winning a valuable pot in Ireland and connections resisted the temptation of the Ayr Gold Cup the following week to keep him fresh for this crack at another big prize.
15:40 Newmarket Tip
15:40 NEWMARKET – BEYLERBEYI @ 9/2
The Ian Williams -trained gelding has a great chance of creating history by becoming the first back-to-back winner of the Cesarewitch . Aim To Prosper is the only horse to win the famous marathon handicap twice, but there was a gap in between his glory days in 2010 and 2012.
Beylerbeyi is 10lb higher than 12 months ago but he deserves all of that and probably more, having performed with great credit in some major staying races this season. Last time out, he was only a length and a quarter behind the now multiple Group One winner Caballo De Mar in the Doncaster Cup and the handicapper would actually prefer him to carry another 2lb, but it was too late to adjust his rating.
