Grand National 25/1 to 8/1 Gamble: The Mare Backed To End 75-Year Curse

Racing at Punchestown

The biggest market mover of Grand National week has arrived – and it’s not one of the Irish powerhouses dominating the market. A considerable gamble on Panic Attack has seen her odds crash into 8/1 from 25/1, making Dan Skelton’s mare the most talked-about horse in the build-up to Saturday’s race at Aintree.

The Grand Gamble At Aintree

Grand National Gamble Snowballing on Panic Attack

BOYLE Sports has confirmed that significant support continues for Panic Attack ahead of Saturday’s Grand National at Aintree. She is now the bookmaker’s biggest liability, with punters backing her heavily despite the historical obstacle she faces.

The Dan Skelton-trained ten-year-old has already notched up nine career victories, including three this season, arriving at Aintree in the form of her life. The question is whether that form is enough to rewrite the record books.

“The Grand National gamble continues to snowball on Panic Attack, and she is by far the biggest liability in the book. She does have to rewrite history and become the first mare in 75-years to win the big race but there’s no better trainer than Dan Skelton for punters to have on their side, and she is a nightmare result.”

75-Year Curse To End?

History Is Against Her – But Punters Aren’t Listening

For all the confidence in the market, Panic Attack faces a challenge no horse has managed in three-quarters of a century. Nickel Coin was the last mare to win the world’s most famous steeplechase back in 1951 – meaning a win on Saturday would end a 75-year wait and produce one of the most memorable results in the race’s long history.

Can She Beat the Irish?

Can She Beat the Irish?

Even if Panic Attack defies history, she’ll need to get past a formidable Irish contingent. Six of the last seven renewals of the Grand National have gone the way of the Irish raiders, and 2024 winner I Am Maximus heads the betting at 7/1 with trainer Willie Mullins and owner JP McManus responsible for five of the top six in the betting between them.

Mullins’ stranglehold on the market extends further down the field too. With Mullins set to field eight runners, his former Grade 1 winner Champ Kiely has also been backed into 28/1 (from 66/1) – another significant mover as punters look to get on board with the dominant force in jump racing.
