After two hurdle contests, we switch to the Flat for a well-contested maiden which features Royal Ascot runners One Number and Our Boy Bailey , but preference is for Aidan O’Brien’s City Of Gold , a €400,000 son of Wootton Bassett who looked sure to come on a ton for his debut fifth at Fairyhouse .

All of the big yards are represented in the Connacht Hotel Handicap , but William Durkan may well have one to eclipse them with this six-year-old, who has relished a switch to the Flat with a close Leopardstown second and a smooth Killarney success. This is a much tougher test but an opening handicap mark on the level of 90 does not seems harsh for a horse with strong form over timber, competing at two Cheltenham festivals and posting excellent runner-up efforts in big fields at Aintree and Haydock this spring.

Michael O’Callaghan has his yard in decent fettle at the moment and the booking of Colin Keane for this three-year-old catches the eye after a promising second at Dundalk last time out, when hitting the front just over a furlong out before being worn down close home.

When it comes to following trainers, there are none hotter than Joseph O’Brien and this well-bred daughter of Arc hero Sottsass has done her bit by landing a Limerick double since being stepped up in distance. On both occasions, Themis was given a patient ride before powering home to prevail in emphatic fashion and it would be no surprise to see her improve enough again to defy another hefty hike up the ratings.
