Denis Hogan did us a favour with beginners chase winner Frankie John on Tuesday and we’re hoping he can now strike on the Flat in this Listed affair for fillies. Meriden has already done her handler proud this summer, rattling off five straight wins and rising rapidly through the grades, most recently landing a premier handicap at the Curragh and then striking decisively at this level at Killarney .

Shadow Paddy sets a strong standard in this Grade Three novice chase after two nice wins over fences so far, but he has to give away 11lb to our selection, who scored four times over hurdles and made a successful switch to bigger obstacles when romping home by 11 lengths at Wexford .

15:55 – BROTHER WALFRID
Gordon Elliott ’s charge has done little wrong in two outings over hurdles, chasing home Colcannon when second of 25 at Fairyhouse back in early April and then readily beating a big field at Punchestown eight weeks ago, so he looks worth sticking with despite facing some useful foes.

16:30 GUINNESS GALWAY HURDLE – RAGMANS CORNER (NAP) @ 12/1
Elliott had a good word for expensive purchase El Cairos last week and a mammoth prize fund of €270,000 has predictably attracted all the top yards, but Gerard Keane’s seven-year-old could spring a minor surprise against better fancied rivals. Ragmans Corner has form figures of 4132 in his visits to the Ballybrit course and warmed up for this valuable contest with a staying on eighth of 24 in a Flat handicap at the Curragh without ever being given too hard a time, so he has each-way appeal against shorter prices from the bigger stables.

This well-bred Godolphin cast-off looked like a real bargain buy at just 22,000gns after overcoming trouble in running at Killarney to upset Treasure Rose , who then won her next couple of races. Hygge followed that up by comfortably justifying favouritism in a Cork maiden hurdle and the colours carried to 10 wins by Wodhooh could well adorn another prolific scorer.

Really caught the eye when coming from a fair way back to score in a big field at Gowran Park last month and may get the strong pace he needs again here after being far from disgraced in two subsequent spins at the Curragh and Leopardstown .

Disappointed twice after an encouraging 150/1 debut fourth at Fairyhouse but got back on track when second at Listowel behind well-backed previous winner Thelittleballerina after cheekpieces were fitted and they are on again here.
