Charlie Appleby took a patient approach with his Wootton Bassett colt, bypassing a 2000 Guineas bid to take a more gentle route through the ranks.
After a comfortable win on his only start as a juvenile, Talk Of New York came third in a valuable Listed race in Dubai before successes at Newmarket and Sandown .
He was then allowed to mix it with the best of the Classic generation, finishing a length and three-quarters behind 2000 Guineas superstar Bow Echo in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot .
While Bow Echo and runner-up Gstaad battled it out again for Sussex Stakes glory on Wednesday, Talk Of New York drops back down a level and remains against his own age, which makes him hard to look past in our Friday Glorious Goodwood tips.

Richard Hannon ’s colt triumphed in a Doncaster novice to start his three-year-old career before catching the eye with an impressive Gowran Park victory over an extended mile and a furlong.
A step up to a mile and a half for the Irish Derby proved too stiff a test, so coming back in trip and class, with Ryan Moore booked to ride for the first time, seems a shrewd move.

15:35 KING GEORGE QATAR STAKES – SPICY MARG @ 12/1
Michael Bell ’s filly looked a speed demon when winning on debut over five furlongs at Newmarket and over this course and distance 12 months ago.
She has only had two starts over the minimum trip since, in the Nunthorpe and the Cornwallis last year, as the Fitzroy House handler pushed for a tilt at the 1000 Guineas on her reappearance as a three-year-old.
The daughter of Starspangledbanner finished eighth in that Classic before reverting back to six sprinting with great effect, placing third in the Sandy Lane at Haydock before being beaten only a head by Venetian Sun in Royal Ascot’s Commonwealth Cup , both over six furlongs.
You can scratch her moderate Summer Stakes run last time out at York as she clearly is not a fan of the Knavesmire track and Spicy Marg makes plenty of each-way appeal ahead of her return to five furlongs.

16:10 BENTINCK CONDITIONS STAKES – BOILING POINT @ 5/1
Karl Burke ’s five-year-old held off the reopposing Naqeeb in a May Listed contest over a mile and two furlongs that felt like a rock-solid affair.
Boiling Point then finished third in the Diomed at Epsom and was a fair fourth behind the impressive Sallaal at Sandown earlier this month, but switching back to the Sussex Downs is regarded as a huge plus.
