Cheltenham Festival Day 4 Tips – Robbie Power & Bryan Cooper’s Friday Festival Best Bets
Triumph Hurdle Tips
Triumph Hurdle Tips
Robbie Power: It’s Gold Cup Day and what a day’s racing to look forward to. It starts off with the ultra-competitive Triumph Hurdle. Willie Mullins saddles nine of the 20 runners in this race. He won it with a 100/1 shot last year (Poniros), Bryan. What do you think of the race this year?
Bryan Cooper: I’m a big fan of Proactif (6/1). I thought he was very impressive when he won in Fairyhouse. He was well touted from France and he beat another horse of Willie Mullins’ that day, of Joe Donnelly’s (Macho Man) who they thought was a very good horse. I think that this horse might follow similar steps to Majborough. He looks a big staying chaser for the future, and I think he ticks all the boxes.
Bryan Cooper’s Triumph Hurdle Tip: Proactif @ 6/1
RP: Yes, definitely a big plus for Proactif. I like Highland Crystal (7/2) as well, Gordon Elliott’s mare. She’s unbeaten, three wins from three and won very impressively the last day. I think the stiffness of the Triumph Hurdle will suit her.
Robbie Power’s Triumph Hurdle Tip: Highland Crystal E/W @ 7/2
Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle Tips

BC: I like Jalon D’oudairies (16/1) for Gordon Elliott. He was 3rd in the Champion Bumper two years ago. He was held in high regard by Gordon then. He won his maiden hurdle at Naas on his last start; he’s a real staying type. This race is a graveyard for favourites, and I think at the prices he’s a very good each-way bet.
Bryan Cooper’s Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle Tip: Jalon D’oudairies E/W @ 16/1
RP: Spinningayarn (14/1) for me from Gordon Elliott is on the improvement. The step up in trip is really going to suit him, the drying ground is definitely going to suit him as well. So I’m going to give Spinningayarn an each-way chance against Doctor Steinberg.
Robbie Power’s Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle Tip: Spinningayarn E/W @ 14/1
Mares’ Chase Tips
Mares’ Chase Tips
BC: Very competitive race. Willie Mullins has Spindleberry (11/2) in this race, who I suppose if you draw a line through her run in the Irish Gold Cup, she probably should be shorter in the betting. I just think Dinoblue is inclined to make a mistake or two. Although she is a very good jumper, she can miss one or two fences.
I’m going to stick with Spindleberry. Nothing happened for her in the Irish Gold Cup, up to that her form was very good. She beat the geldings last year in a novice chase in Fairyhouse and I think if she gets a clear round of jumping, she’ll run a big race.
Bryan Cooper’s Mares’ Chase Tip: Spindleberry @ 11/2
RP: I agree with you, I think Spindleberry has got a massive chance in this race. And Only By Night (8/1) was 2nd in the Arkle Chase here last year. I did a Cheltenham Preview night and Gavin Cromwell (trainer) was very sweet on Only By Night stepping up in trip to 2 and 1/2 miles. I think she’s got a massive chance.
Robbie Power’s Mares’ Chase Tip: Only By Night @ 8/1

RP: I think the Gold Cup is wide open this year; unfortunately, there's no Galopin Des Champs this year, but it’s still a wide-open Gold Cup
BC: It is a wide-open Gold Cup. I suppose the British have a strong hand in it this year with Jango Baie (10/3) and Ben Pauling’s horse The Jukebox Man (10/3). That King George form is solid enough, but I just question how good of a race the King George was. There were five of them in a line jumping the last.
I do think that if Paul Townend can just get Gaelic Warrior (10/3) to settle and relax, he’s probably the best horse in the race and the first mile or mile and a half in the race will be the most important for him, and if he settles, I think he’ll take a lot of beating.
Bryan Cooper’s Cheltenham Gold Cup Tip: Gaelic Warrior @ 10/3
RP: I personally don’t think that Gaelic Warrior will get the trip. I’m a big fan of The Jukebox Man. I thought he won a King George when things didn’t go right for him.
Good horses win races when they’re not supposed to, and that was a good performance from The Jukebox Man. If I could ride any horse in the Gold Cup it would be The Jukebox Man.
Robbie Power’s Cheltenham Gold Cup Tip: The Jukebox Man @ 10/3
