Ryanair Chase Tips: Is Fact To File A Case Of By How Far?

Horse Racing Crowds at Cheltenham Festival

Fact To File is a red-hot favourite to retain his title in the 2026 Ryanair Chase odds after being one of the most impressive winners at last year’s Cheltenham Festival.

The Willie Mullins-trained nine-year-old will bid to join Albertas Run and Allaho as back-to-back winners of this Thursday feature.

Here, we take a look at all nine Ryanair Chase runners and have ranked them in reverse order.

Tips

Ryanair Chase Tips: All 9 Runners Ranked

9. Croke Park

9. Croke Park – 80/1

Gordon Elliott’s eight-year-old claimed a couple of Grade One wins as a novice last winter but has been badly out of sorts this season.

8. Master Chewy

8. Master Chewy – 100/1

The Twiston-Davies team have tried various distances since he was fifth in this contest last term, but two and a half miles does seem to suit best judged on runner-up efforts in the Old Roan at Aintree and Kempton’s Silviniaco Conti Chase.

7. JPR One

7. JPR One – 28/1

Took full advantage of a drop in class when scoring nicely at Musselburgh last time out but past Festival exploits suggest he will again have his limitations exposed at this level.

6. Matata

6. Matata – 33/1

Has to bounce back from a poor performance in the Fleur de Lys at Windsor but had previously claimed a second course success when romping home by nine and a half lengths in a decent handicap. Won’t be disgraced if on song.

5. Impaire Et Passe

5. Impaire Et Passe – 7/1

Ran away from Gaelic Warrior in what is now the Turners Novices’ Hurdle on his only previous trip to Cheltenham three years ago, so Willie Mullins will be hoping he remembers that experience and is spurred on to show the same sparkle.

Hasn’t always been the most fluent of jumpers over fences but still managed to land two Grade One victories as a novice last term and readily justified favouritism in the Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park recently.

4. Banbridge

4. Banbridge – 13/2

Put a couple of below-par displays behind him when just a nose away from making it back-to-back King George triumphs and this versatile performer has two other top-level victories on his CV at shorter trips.

Won the 2022 Martin Pipe race here over hurdles but his two Cheltenham Festival outings over fences give cause for concern, finishing tailed off in the 2024 Ryanair and last year’s Gold Cup.

3. Heart Wood

3. Heart Wood – 9/1

Chased home Fact To File in game fashion 12 months ago and has picked up two fair Grade Three prizes at Punchestown and Tramore this term.

Faded out to finish a well-beaten fourth behind Gaelic Warrior and Fact To File in the John Durkan in between but may benefit from going back to being ridden to run on for place money.

Jonbon

2. Jonbon – 13/2

The head says Nicky Henderson’s grand servant has had mixed results when running at Cheltenham down the years and obviously isn’t getting any younger, but the heart is refusing to rule him out.

Jonbon showed all of his trademark battling qualities when wearing down Pic D’orhy in the Ascot Chase to make it an incredible 12 Grade One wins and it is hard to dismiss the stat that probably the most popular horse in training has never been out of the first two in 27 starts under rules.

1. Fact To File

1. Fact To File – 8/11

Connections have resisted the temptation to chase Gold Cup glory despite Fact To File finishing with his ears pricked when powering home five lengths clear in the Irish equivalent, but he is expected to at least reward such prudence by comfortably claiming this more than ample consolation prize.

The nine-year-old has an excellent Cheltenham record, finishing second in the 2023 Champion Bumper before scoring in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase 12 months later and then sauntering to a nine-length success in this event last term.

This year’s renewal doesn’t look any more challenging on paper and many will be betting on how far the imperious Fact To File wins by!
