The Queen Mother Champion Chase is the feature event in our Cheltenham Festival day two tips but there is also a strong supporting card on Wednesday.
With Grade One novice events over hurdles and fences, the Cross Country Chase, the Champion Bumper and a couple of ultra-competitive handicaps to go at, there really is something to suit all tastes.
Cheltenham Festival Day 2 Tips
Turners Novices' Hurdle Tip
Cheltenham 13:20 – Turners Novices' Hurdle
Tip: No Drama This End
Paul Nicholls' highly-rated six-year-old has yet to taste defeat in three starts over obstacles and has the advantage of course and distance experience, as he started his hurdling career with victory here last November.
No Drama This End was last seen claiming Grade One glory in the Challow at Newbury over Christmas and, although he was more workmanlike than spectacular that day, he should prove a tough nut to crack in the Turners Novices' Hurdle.
Brown Advisory Tip
Cheltenham 14:00 – Brown Advisory Novices' Chase
Tip: Kaid D'Authie
Caused a minor upset when scoring in top-level company at the Dublin Racing Festival, with much-vaunted stablemate Final Demand a well-beaten third, and can prove that was no fluke by following up in the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase.
Willie Mullins put the improvement down to restoring cheekpieces and Kaid d'Authie can do the same double recently achieved by Closutton aces Monkfish in 2021 and Fact To File two years ago.
Coral Cup Tip
Cheltenham 14:40 – Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle
Tip: Storm Heart
Formerly a smart juvenile who went off as favourite when fifth in the 2024 Triumph, Storm Heart has shone in wins at Limerick and Gowran Park this term and could prove a cut above handicap company by carrying a big weight to victory.
Cross Country Chase Tip
Cheltenham 15:20 – Cross Country Chase
Tip: Stumptown
Gavin Cromwell has kept his charge fresh for the defence of his Cross Country Chase title since a famous Velka Pardubicka win in October and not even top weight may stop him from being a class apart again.
Champion Chase Tip
Cheltenham 16:00 – Queen Mother Champion Chase
Tip: Majborough (NAP)
Mullins' star tasted success at Prestbury Park when claiming the 2024 Triumph Hurdle, but jumping issues saw him come up just short 12 months ago in the Arkle.
Those fencing frailties were a cause for concern at the start of this season too, but it all came together when he produced a statement 19-length victory over Marine Nationale in the Dublin Chase at Leopardstown.
Wearing cheekpieces seemed to play a big part in that improvement and they are retained here, so if Majborough gets over the 13 fences without mishap, the Queen Mother Champion Chase trophy looks his for the taking.
Grand Annual Tip
Cheltenham 16:40 – Grand Annual Handicap Chase
Tip: Be Aware
Failed to land a gamble over hurdles at last year's Festival but Dan Skelton's gelding was a rock-solid second in an Arkle trial here in November and can put that experience to good use in the Grand Annual Handicap Chase.
Champion Bumper Tip
Cheltenham 17:20 – Champion Bumper
Tip: Love Sign D'Aunou
Mullins has five contenders in the Champion Bumper and it is this 24-length Naas scorer who gets the nod to give him a record-extending 15th success in this contest, having sent over five of the last six victors.
