Irish trainers target lucrative Ayr Raid
BOYLE Sports is reporting what could be a third Grand National bloodbath for the layers in less than two weeks as punters eye up the possibility of another winning favourite.
The oddsmakers have already seen their fingers burned after Emmet Mullins’ Soldier In Milan triumphed as the 6/1 favourite in the BOYLE Sports Irish Grand National on Easter Monday, before a significant public gamble saw I Am Maximus sent off as 9/2 favourite when landing the Aintree showpiece last Saturday.
A small but select number of Irish raiders are set to descend on Ayr on Saturday for the Scottish Grand National, with Joseph O’Brien’s Kim Roque spearheading the team looking for a clean Grand National sweep. The six-year-old was last seen finishing fourth in the Kim Muir when staying on eye-catchingly and has already seen his odds cut into 5/1 favourite (from 10/1) with BOYLE Sports to continue a fine run for his trainer over obstacles.
The Willie Mullins-trained Road To Home finished 8-lengths in front of his fellow raider at Cheltenham and is now 7/1 third favourite (from 14/1) with King Of Answers marked out as the leading British hope for Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“The bookies have already endured two Grand National onslaughts in less than two weeks, and with the way bets are trending ahead of the action at Ayr on Saturday, another storm is brewing. Soldier In Milan and I Am Maximus have us firmly on the ropes, and if Kim Roque goes in, we’ll undoubtedly be on the canvas.”
