Coolmore bids to clip British wings with Gstaad
Bow Echo is the one to beat according to the bookies heading into this weekend’s 2000 Guineas at Newmarket after the final field was confirmed on Thursday morning.
Trained by George Boughey, the three-year-old heads the betting at 2/1 with BOYLE Sports and brings solid credentials to the opening Classic of the campaign, having recorded a course-and-distance victory in the Royal Lodge last term.
Hot on his heels in the market is 4/1 shot Distant Storm, who will be ridden by William Buick for trainer Charlie Appleby. Appleby is bidding to land the race for the fourth time in five years, while Aidan O’Brien’s chances of a first 2000 Guineas victory since 2019 are carried by sole Coolmore representative Gstaad (also 4/1).
He was supplemented for the race after being mistakenly scratched last month and lines up with a chance to halt a run of four consecutive British-trained winners in the race.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“It looks set to be another cracking renewal of the 2000 Guineas, and while Godolphin and Coolmore both hold leading claims, the bullishness coming from George Boughey on the chances of Bow Echo has marked him out as the one to beat. He heads the betting as the 2/1 favourite with Gstaad and Distant Storm heading the chasing pack.”
