Ryan Moore tracked SP favourite Marshman and Persian Force before taking off in the final furlong to record a second successive Group One victory for the son of No Nay Never by two lengths to stablemate The Antarctic.
Blackbeard has since been backed into 3/1 joint favourite from 7/1 in the betting for the Dewhurst back at Newmarket next month, while his 2000 Guineas chances next year were also revised into 9/1 from 16/1 by BoyleSports after the win.
The winning combination of Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore had earlier been denied in the Cheveley Park Stakes, where even money favourite Meditate was beaten by a fourth win in five starts for Lezoo, who has now seen her 1000 Guineas odds halved into 10/1 from 20/1.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Blackbeard was easy enough to back before the off, but it was a solid performance that appears to have convinced quite a few of his credentials.
"A growing number are confident he’s a Guineas horse, so we’ve had to go 9/1 from 16/1 as a result leaving only three ahead of him at this stage in the early betting.”
