We spoke to former Tottenham midfielder Gus Poyet ahead of the derby match, where he expressed his fear that Antonio Conte will leave the club this summer if he is not backed by the board during the transfer window.

An angry Conte claimed earlier this year that the club was weakened by their business in the January transfer window and Poyet believes it won’t take too much more frustration to see the Italian head for the Tottenham exit.

“I think if he isn’t promised transfers in the window, he could leave,” Poyet told BoyleSports.

“Everyone was talking about Conte and Paris St Germain last summer and it seemed they weren’t ready for each other, so why now?"

"The situation with PSG and Conte is strange for many reasons, as they do not play like Unai Emery or Mauricio Pochettino, but maybe he’s what they need to get their special trophy that they’re looking for.

"The two teams that need it the most are PSG and Man City and they cannot get it.”

Poyet, a former Brighton manager, also singled out current Seagulls boss Graham Potter as a potential replacement should Tottenham make another managerial change this summer.

“Graham Potter is the perfect fit for many reasons. The way he wants to play football, he’s proved himself in the Premier League."

"It’s the right timing and with respect to Brighton, Spurs are bigger. If Conte leaves, it’s the perfect match for Tottenham and him.”

The form of Son Heung-min was also singled out for praise by Poyet, who questioned why top clubs aren’t more keen to wrestle him from Tottenham.

“We always talk about Harry Kane leaving, but never Son. I think he’s the player that any top club in the world would love and every manager would love to have.

"He’s professional, he runs a lot, he has quality and spends most of the time on the pitch."

“He’s the dream player for a manager and I always say the top players have a difficult side; he doesn’t.”
