The BOYLE Sports  Irish Greyhound Derby is down to one night per weekend! On Saturday the 22nd of August, we will have all 48 dogs battle it out for a place in the next round, the quarter-finals.

Here we preview each heat from Round 3 Heats 1-8

Heat 1

Heat 1:

(1)   Low Profile -  EVS

(2)   Magical Jet – 14/1

(3)   Grouchos Chief – 7/4

(4)   NR

(5)   Grangeview Rocco – 20/1

(6)   Bombay Special – 4/1

Low Profile ironically heads the market for heat one of the third round for Graham Holland, looking to continue his unbeaten streak in this year’s competition following successes in 29.46 and 29.37.

I like the look of the favourites kennel-mate Bombay Special though, who I think if she can trap as she can may get a free run on the outside and deliver for connections.

Heat 2

Heat 2:

(1)   Firstpastthepost – 20/1

(2)   Bockos Gold – 4/1

(3)   Ballydoyle Tina– 4/1

(4)   Lone Calling– 5/1

(5)   Bockos Diamond – EVS

(6)   Priceless Romeo– 8/1

There’s plenty of ability in this race; Bockos Gold hasn’t done the clocks he’s capable of in the Derby, but if he can come away, he’s significantly overpriced in the market, and Priceless Romeo is still flying under the radar in competition.

Bockos Diamond is the obvious pick here, and though he’s approaching “veteran” status, he retains buckets of pace, and at EVS for this heat he’s still value in the market.

Heat 3

Heat 3:

(1)   Hackney Dancer -  3/1

(2)   Skywalker Bruno – 5/1

(3)   Droopys Monk– 5/1

(4)   Glengar Kane– 5/2

(5)   Blastoff Heffo– 33/1

(6)   Im Here– 9/4

Im Here, trained by Peter Cronin, has been runner-up in his opening two rounds but last weekend's one-length defeat to Glengar Phantom suggests he is close to finding his feet in the Derby and so is a worthy favourite.

On the inside, Hackney Dancer and Skywalker Bruno are unbeaten so far in the competition and with the former’s consistency at boxes I think he’s great value in the betting market.

Heat 4

Heat 4:

(1)   Kevinsfort Fancy -  66/1

(2)   Crossfield Matt – 12/1

(3)   Bouncing Monarch– 1/2

(4)   Getup The Boy– 4/1

(5)   Ballyea Warrior– 4/1

(6)   Uncle Keith – 25/1

Bouncing Monarch is favourite in the outright market with good reason, and if he performs as he has, he’ll continue his unbeaten streak in the competition comfortably.

The each-way market is the one to look for some value and the unbeaten Ballyea Warrior looks a great value pick, especially given his consistency at boxes.

Heat 5

Heat 5:

(1)   Ballymac Kamala -  5/2

(2)   Mona Lee Monbeg– 66/1

(3)   Wi Can James – 5/4

(4)   Croydon Avenger– 14/1

(5)   Glengar Phantom– 5/1

(6)   Ballymac Gwennie– 7/2

Ballymac Kamala retains more ability than most, but we haven’t seen her at her best in this year's Derby, and likely favourite Wi Can James made the reduced field count last weekend to win in an impressive 29.21.

It’s Liam Dowling’s other bitch in this race, Ballymac Gwennie, who has caught my eye so far, though running well in success and in defeat, and I fancy her to do the business in this heat at a reasonable price.

Heat 6

Heat 6:

(1)   Sleight Of Hand -  7/4

(2)   Sober Barry– 9/2

(3)   Coloursaregreen – 6/1

(4)   Droopys Winsome – 33/1

(5)   Razldazl Loreal– 7/1

(6)   Lennies Dynamic –  7/4

It’s hard to split the market leaders in this heat; Sleight Of Hand has been close to faultless so far in this year’s Derby, winning in 29.10 and 29.27, and on clocks alone he should do the business on Saturday.

Don’t dismiss Lennies Dynamic though, who seems to find his trapping in the last round, but I’d still favour the dog in the red jacket over him.

Heat 7

Heat 7:

(1)   Faypoint Harvey -  25/1

(2)   Waitingforastar–  11/8

(3)   In The Sunset –  16/1

(4)   Hackney Plan– 5/2

(5)   Slippery Brian–  9/2

(6)   Kapuka Coley –  7/2

Waitingforastar is favourite to keep his unbeaten status in this year’s competition and on current running it’s hard to look past the dog who could improve on his 29.35 best for the 550 trip.

Heat 8

Heat 8:

(1)   Downtothewire -  10/1

(2)   Harlequin Gee Up - 16/1

(3)   Barntick Bucko –  25/1

(4)   Solo And Go – 1/2

(5)   Mill Willow – 6/1

(6)   Harvard Square–  4/1

Solo And Go has been exceptionally consistent throughout this Derby campaign, and if he replicates either his 29.27 or 29.34 runs so far, he will remain unbeaten after Saturday's heat.

There looks to be real value in Mill Willow as an eachway play who is showing potentially exceptional ability given he has less than ten races in his career to date.
