BOYLE Sports  Irish Greyhound Derby Round 2 Heats 9-16

The BOYLE Sports  Irish Greyhound Derby continues Saturday, August 15th, with 48 dogs looking to book their place in the third round for the most coveted competition on the island.

Here we preview each heat from Round 2 Heats 9-16

Heat 9

Heat 9:

(1)   Crossfield Matt -  7/2

(2)   Downtothewire – 16/1

(3)   Ballymac Charbel – 9/2

(4)   Kerlogue Jet – 66/1

(5)   Bockos Diamond – 1/2

(6)   Ballymac Altobel – 10/1

2024 Champion Bockos Diamond reminded punters that he had gone away just yet last week, winning in 29.40, and his status as favourite is justified in this heat.

Crossfield Matt didn’t get a run though and still posted 29.69 qualifying in fourth, and if he were to get any sort of better luck he remains a solid each-way play.

Heat 10

Heat 10:

(5)   Grangeview Rocko – 33/1

Gaytime Clyde was unfortunate not to win in the first round for Graham Holland, clocking 29.40 to be beaten by a hd by Coloursaregreen but should be very close to success this time.

Heat 11

Heat 11:

(3)   Ballymac Kamala– 5/2

(4)   Avenue Queen– 25/1

(5)   Oriental King– 8/1

(6)   Ballymac Gwennie– 3/1

On raw ability alone, Heat 11 may have the strongest field of any of the draws for the second round of the competition, with little more than 0.20 spots separating each of the field at their respective peaks.

Ballymac Gwennie was impressive in round one though and for me is a value play in the betting ring.

(3)   Amidus Hulk– 8/1

(4)   In The Sunset– 10/1

(5)   Harvard Square– 6/1

(6)   Ballyhooly Cliff– 3/1

Sleight Of Hand was simply majestic when clocking 29.10 in the first round from a 3.41 sectional and the fastest clock of the round to the third bend at 16.90, and he should be in a class of his own, representing strong market value.

Heat 13

Heat 13:

(1)   Razldazl Thelma -  6/1

(2)   Coloursaregreen – 2/1

(3)   Ballymac Siun – 12/1

(4)   Sure Exile– 10/1

(5)   Glengar Phantom– 8/1

(6)   Im Here– 5/4

This looks to be a battle between Coloursaregreen for Paul Hennessy and Im Here for Peter Cronin. It could go down to the wire, but I think the latter has more improvement in their legs.

Heat 14

Heat 14:

(2)   Droopys Monk– 5/2

(3)   Faypoint Harvey – 10/1

(4)   Waitingforastar – 4/6

(5)   Kilwest Major– 10/1

(6)   Paulstown Cash –  14/1

Going on their respective first round showing, this will be seen as one of the “weaker” heats with three fourth place finishes and two thirds from last week in the field. Waitingforastar won in 29.53 though, and a similar run should be enough to land the spoils.

Heat 15

Heat 15:

(2)   Timmys Bucks–  5/1

(3)   Barntick Bucko–  12/1

(4)   Croydon Avenger – 7/2

(5)   Cracking Cody–  10/1

(6)   Razldazl Loreal –  5/4

None of Heat 15 landed their first-round heats, but Razldazl Loreal clocked well to do 29.55, 3.5 lengths behind Ballymac Gwennie.

I think there’s value in Croydon Avenger if he can get a run this time!

Heat 16

(2)   Wi Can James - 4/9

(3)   Miami Hyland –  14/1

(4)   Droopys Winsome – 14/1

(5)   Sawdust Barry – 14/1

(6)   Mill Willow–  7/2

Wi Can James heads the market for the final heat of round two, and after clocking 29.34 in the first round for Patrick Guilfoyle, it’s a fair assumption.

Mill Willow is my place pick again for Barry Clancy, this strong-running sort will be hard to keep out of the frame.
