BOYLE Sports  Irish Greyhound Derby Round 2 Heats 1-8

The BOYLE Sports  Irish Greyhound Derby continues on Friday, August 14th, with 48 dogs beginning their journey to fight it out to win one of the sport's biggest prizes.

Here we preview each heat from Round 2 Heats 1-8

Heat 1

Heat 1:

Bockos Gold showed he had more in his copybook than blistering early pace when qualifying without getting a run last week and remains a worthy favourite for this heat.

There’s value in backing a challenger though, and if Priceless Romeo quietly goes about his business again he can go close with big eachway claims.

The vacant red box may open up this race for one of the bigger priced fancies to qualify for the next round, but the likely winner is certainly on the outside.

Glengar Kane posted a 3.36 away last weekend, and if he can emulate close to that, he will give the market fancies serious problems.

Low Profile heads the market in this one for Graham Holland after an impressive 29.46 victory last week from a solid sectional of 3.41 but a relatively more modest 17.11 to the third bend with twelve dogs going quicker.

There looks to be more value in kennelmate Bombay Special who may have gone slower in 29.59 from a 3.51 and 17.24, but she looks to be well-drawn for a clear run, and I can see her delivering for connections on Friday.

Ballymac Deniro was magical in success when winning his first-round heat in 29.23, showing everyone why he’s among the market fancies in the outright betting.

The each-way market may be the one to look at here, and the early-paced Silent Noelle should have improvement in her from her first round 29.78 success.

Kapuka Coley will be a worthy favourite for this heat following his victory in 29.35 for Karol Ramsbottom in the first round.

The favourite here is worth challenging, and I think Grouchos Frank retains value to place in-behind and maybe even win with some luck.

Heat 6 for me looks to be one of the most interesting draws for round two, and even if favourite Hackney Plan is not short of pace, I can see a compelling argument for almost every dog in this heat to go close on Friday.

Blastoff Heffo ran well in-behind last week, and for a dog who is such a consistent performer in classic competitions at a double-digit price there’s serious eachway value in him for perspective punters.

Ballyea Warrior was one of the emerging contenders from the first round, with only two going quicker than his 16.95 to the third bend, and I fancy him for success again in this heat.

The final heat of Friday night is all about outright market leader Bouncing Monarch who was exceptional in his first-round success, winning in 29.10 from a 3.43 sectional and a 16.90 to the third bend (the second fastest of the round).

There’s plenty of pace in and around the favourite, but such is the quality of the hound on current odds Bouncing Monarch is still the value play.
