Greece v Republic of Ireland Preview
Greece’s Form
Ivan Jovanović is the new man in charge of Greece following his appointment on the 1st of August. This is his first foray into International management and it’s been a dream start to his tenure with three wins from his opening three games in charge defeating Finland 3-0 at home, beating Ireland 0-2 at the Aviva and most recently on Thursday Night earning a huge 1-2 win over England.
He has alternated his formations from his first two games in charge using a 4-3-3 against Finland and a 4-2-3-1 against Ireland; he kept the latter formation for the side's latest victory over England. Overall so far in the Nations League they’ve averaged 10.3 shots per game an average of 44.7% of possession a pass completion percentage of 82.6% and 9 aerials won per game.
It's been an emotional few days for the Greek National Team, but I suspect that will spur them on further like it did against England.

Republic of Ireland’s Form
It’s been an interesting start to the tenure of Heimir Hallgrímsson against England despite a 10-minute flurry, in the beginning, they slumped to a 0-2 defeat, against Greece, they performed well in the first half but collapsed in the second half to lose 0-2 but in their latest win over Finland, they showed fantastic resilience to come back and beat Finland 1-2. Whether that result can be a turning point for their mental strength time will tell.
Heimir has been searching for the formation that best suits this Irish side's strengths in his opening games going with a 3-4-2-1 and a 4-4-1-1. However, it was on his third time asking that he found good fortune with a 4-2-3-1 against Finland on Thursday Night. So far under Heimir they’ve averaged 9.7 shots per game, 40% of possession with a pass completion rate of 80.1% and 13.7 aerials won per game.
That win over Finland might just be the turning point in their fortunes, but time will tell.

Key Players To Watch
Konstantinos Mavropanos – Greece
The West Ham defender (26) has arguably been Greece’s standout performer since debuting for the senior side in 2021. He is a very strong defender with his 1.68 interceptions, 4.81 clearances and 2.34 aerials in the 91st, 80th and 67th percentile for all defenders. He also carries a strong ball-playing ability and passing range from deep.
Festy Ebosele – Republic of Ireland
One of Ireland’s brightest talents and a man who the fans had been clamouring to see more of for Ireland Festy Ebosele (22) had to bide his time against Finland too but after coming on in the 80th minute that was all he needed to make a lasting impression.
When he came on in the RM/RW role he was electric down the right-hand side and provided a breathtaking assist for Brady’s winning goal. Festy is extremely raw in everything he does but is extremely exciting and offers a huge threat, while the defensive side of his game needs work for now he offers Ireland a terrific option further up the pitch.

Greece v Republic of Ireland Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Greece 1-1 Republic of Ireland
Greece are performing brilliantly in this Nations League campaign and spurred on by outside motivation they even claimed a victory over England in their most recent game another positive result here would put them in a commanding position.
Though the formbook would have you think otherwise, there is very little difference between the Greek and Irish National sides and Ireland were very unfortunate not to go in ahead against them at the Aviva last time they played.
Both teams will be confident and I can see a scored draw on the cards which might even be a result both would be largely happy with in the broader picture.
Best Bet: Draw @ 9/4
